As soon as I walked past this painting in the Chrysler, I was immediately stricken by it and knew it would be the perfect candidate for my summer assignment. Barkley L. Hendricks’s “Slick” is visually stunning. The stark contrast between the white of the suit and the brown of the man’s skin easily grab the viewer’s attention. The contrast between black and white is not only a visual one, but also reflects the social and political conditions of the era it was created in.1 Despite the contrasts in the image, a sort of unity is also suggested. In the painting, Hendricks wears both a hip white suit and a traditional African cap. This combination suggests a marriage between the old and the new, unity between the past and the present.…

Dennis Rodman, whose extraordinary rebounding skills helped the Pistons and Bulls win five championships, may be better-known among NBA fans for his unusual haircuts, offcourt antics and turbulent retirement. He reminded Bulls fans and writers of that side of him Wednesday, with a colorful and tear-filled press conference before Game Two of the Eastern Conference finals between the Bulls and Miami. (In an unintentional homage to the Worm, the Bulls gathered a greater share of offensive rebounds than their opponents, though they still lost, knotting the series at a game apiece.)…

When someone thinks about some of the best basketball teams in history, they usually tend to forget about the coaches for those teams. Michael Jordan will always be thought of first when the championship Chicago Bulls teams of the 1990s come to mind. Phil Jackson coached all those championship teams and Jordan never won a championship without Jackson. The same can be said for many other great teams. The coaches of championship teams are always very good at what they do. A coach can be the difference in a winning team and a losing one. They are the ones who are supposed to train their athletes to perform at a level high enough to compete. Coaching is all about…
