It's the 1920’s age of the partying, flappers, prohibition and affairs. Such is the life in The Great Gatsby, The Great Gatsby is a classic novel in which money is the center of many characters' lives; however, that money could not buy happiness. Gatsby being one of thoes main characters tries to use his money and status to gain back his love that he once lost. Although the nightlife was all glitter and glamor at West Egg, when the lights went out, money could not buy Jay Gatsby happiness.

All he wanted was to make Daisy happy, to impress Daisy in hopes of winning her back. And even though he spent all this money on his party to impress, please, win back Daisy, in the end it was all for not. Daisy wasn't happy nor pleased, which in turn meant Gatsby was unhappy. Regardless Gatsby still held onto the belief that he could buy his happiness which was Daisy Bucanon. Gatsby just didn't understand money can't buy happiness.
"Money can't buy you happiness. And that drinkin' can cause you pain.Yeah that stuff you put up your nose, it can drive you insane.
Why do you do these things?" Lynyrd Skynyrd understood money couldn't buy happiness they express this in their song "Start livin' life agin."
Everything that Skynyrd sings about in their song is exactly what Gatsby was doing. When Gatsby couldn't buy his happiness it would hurt, a natural response to deal with pain is to drink, but in the end it only causes more pain. Though Gatsby dies in the end he still holds on to that little bit of hope, that eventually he could buy his happiness Daisy
