Additionally, when Othello has announced the new governor of Cyprus nobody protests because they respect Othello even though he is black. Even Lodervico the kinsman of Brabantio respects Othello for he is the man who his,”nature whole passion could not shake”(4,1). Nevertheless, Othello is not only respected but also recognized as a valiant man. Othello is a very determent man and will always fight for his country and his freedom. Othello states that he,”wherein of antes vast and deserts idle”(1,3) and that he has survived all that has happened. Additionally, Othello is a very powerful person. Othello talks about how he has gone through, ”Battles, sieges, fortunes “(1,3) how he has won all of them. Furthermore, Othello is very courageous and brave man. Othello has lots of courage and is the very brave man. When Othello hears that he will have to go to Cyprus all he says is that ” hath made the flinty and steel couch war my thrice driven bed of down”(1,3). Othello states that he will do anything to win this war and that he will destroy the Turks. Furthermore, Othello is also a very poetic person. Othello language allays sounds like it comes from a poem. Whenever Othello talks to Desdemona at the beginning his words have a sort of erase. When Othello states,"But that I love the gentle Desdemona, I would not my unhoused free condition”(1,2). When Othello states this he sounds like he is talking out of a poem giving up his freedom for Desdemona. Also, when Othello talks to the duke and says,”I am rude in my speech” (1.3) he is very poetic for it is so eloquent. Furthermore, Othello is also a very gentle person. Whenever Othello talks to Desdemona at the beginning of the story he treats her with great respect and is very gentle with her. When Othello states," honey, you shall be well desired in Cyprus"(2,1).Othello calls Desdemona honey and tries to make everything comfortable for her and is very gentle with her.
In summary, Othello is a great war hero who unites the qualities of valiancy, respect, poetics.
Othello is dominated and blinded by his tragic flaws which cause him to destroy himself. Othello's lack of self-esteem is one of his tragic flaws. Othello's lack of self-esteem comes from his race, age and religion. Because Othello is a black man in a white community he has no self-worth. Othello is,” an old black ram” (1,1) Othello has no self-esteem because of his race and how young Desdemona is. Othello is also very self-conscious because he is very Old. Othello states that he is not able to satisfy Desdemona because ” “the young affects in me defunct and proper satisfaction”(1,3).Additionally, Othello's religion is also a reason why he has no self-esteem. Othello is a Muslim man while everybody is Christian or catholic. this is another reason of why Othello has no self-esteem because he has a different belief. Furthermore, Othello has a trusting nature which is another one of his flaws. Othello's trusting nature comes from his lack of self-worth because since Othello is not able to trust in himself he trusts Other people more. Otello states to Iago,” Iago thy honesty and brave doth shake the matter”(2,3) and believes Iago straight away without any doubt that he is lying. Nevertheless, Othello’s trusting nature also is the reason why he is so easily manipulated. Othello is manipulated by Iago and believes Iago easily because he is blinded by his trusting nature. Furthermore, since he has no self-worth and does not trust himself and believes that Desdemona actually cheated on him.Othello states,”damn her, lewd minx”(3,3) and dams Desdemona already without him actually having proof about this matter. Finally, Othello is broken because of his trusting nature.Othello goes crazy because he believes Iago and can't handle the taught that he has been cheated on. Othello is unable to think straight anymore and all he can say when he talks to Iago is,”confess- handkerchief-o devil”(). Furthermore, Othello's jealousy is also one of Othello's tragic flaws. Othello's jealousy destroys all his reasoning and common sense. Othello has been possessed by the “green-eyed monster”(3,3) and cannot think reasonably anymore. According to Emilia, Othello is not himself anymore because he is jealous. Emilia states that ” jealous souls will not be answered ”() and that Othello is blinded by his jealousy. Othello's jealousy comes from his insecurity about himself and Desdemona. Othello knows that he,” jealous is a monster bet upon himself”( ) and that him being jealous he's his own fault. And finally Othello's last flaw his hubris and pride. Othello's Hubris and pride are his motives to kill Desdemona. Othello is blinded by his own pride and thinks that he is doing justice.Othello states," justice to break her sword"(5,2) and why he should spare her when he is doing justice. Othello's pride and hubris are one of Othello's main flaws for this is the one flaw that drives him to kill Desdemona. in conclusion, Othello destroys himself by getting dominated and blinded by his own tragic flaws.
Because Othello is a tragic hero he needs to die an honourable death and gain the audience's sympathy. Othello gains the audience's sympathy by showing us that he regrets killing Desdemona.
Before Othello kills Desdemona he talks about her purity and what horrible beast and the monster he is. Othello shows the regret he has that he killed Desdemona. Othello states," O Desdemona! Desdemona dead! Oh!Oh!Oh!"(5,2). This is when Othello regret that he killed Desdemona. Othello also shows regret when he states,"I am not valiant neither, But ever puny whipster gets my sword" (5,2). Othello states that he is not valiant and brave and that he does not deserve this sword because anybody could take it. Othello also tells the audience that he killed a purely human and that he just,"threw a pearl away"(5,2) ant that he just killed his wife without knowing what she was worth. Othello is also seen as a tragic hero because he accepts his fate. Othello knows that he has destroyed his soul by killing Desdemona and that if he lives he will be locked up. Wen Othello states,"But why should honor outlive honesty?Let it go all" (5,2). Othello states that he lost his reputation because of honour and asks himself why his honour the should last. Furthermore, Othello has to restore order by dying an honourable death. Othello has disturbed the chain of being by marrying a vanishon woman in a higher class. Nevertheless, Othello has to die by his own hands to die an honorable death. Finally, Othello is a tragic hero in a Shakespearean view for his motive was honourable. When Othello confesses to killing Desdemona he tells them that he,"An honorable murderer, if you
will,
For naught, I did in hate, but all in honor"(5,2) and that he did not kill Desdemona because of hate but because it of his own honor. Moreover, Othello also asks the men not to speak badly or exaggerate his story. He tells them that have to tell the true story and that,"Then must you speak Of one that loved not wisely, but too well"(5,2). The audience sees Othello as no murder because Othello saw her murder as a sacrifice. Othello states to Desdemona that he," would not kill thy soul"(5,2) for he is sacrificing her and trying to save her soul before she dies. Nevertheless, Othello is seen mostly asked as a tragic hero for he was,"tricked by this villain"(5,2) and was destroyed by his own flaws.
In conclusion, Othello is a tragic hero who progresses from a slave to a valiant hero only to get destroyed by himself.
