Queen Elizabeth I is said to be one of the greatest rulers of the English territory. Throughout her life her father did not treat her as an equal. Though some of her siblings loved as if they were full bled siblings, there were some that did not even acknowledge that she was some part of royalty. With all of her siblings it was a very long road before she got to the throne. As she finally got to the throne she was very strong with what her sister left her. Her life was full of affliction and kindness and she ruled it heroically. Elizabeth Tudor was born in England at Greenwich Palace on September 7th, 1533. Her parents were Henry Tudor VIII and Anne Boleyn (Anne was Henry VIII's second wife). Elizabeth was only two years old when her mother died of execution . Her mother was falsely accused of adultery and incest (Anne …show more content…
got accused of incest with her brother) by Henry VIII. He wanted a male heir to follow in his footsteps and Anne could not produce a male. She had many miscarriages and many stillborn babies. Henry VIII went on to marry Jane Seymour and have a baby boy named Edward. Jane sadly died in childbirth. After his late wife's death, Henry VIII married Anne of Cleves, divorced her because she was uglier than her portrait. She then married Catherine Howard. Catherine then cheated on him with an ex- lover. Henry VIII executed Catherine for adultery. Then his final wife (actually made an impact on Elizabeth’s life) was Henry VIII’s sixth wife, Catherine Parr. Catherine was the only step mom Elizabeth had that actually cared for her, Catherine cared for Elizabeth more than her father did. When Catherine came to live with them in their kingdom, she arranged that Elizabeth have the most supreme education. She hired tutors, some them even the best in the world and got the education that Elizabeth dreamed of. Elizabeth ended up excelling in music and language.
Henry VIII died on January 28, 1547. Sadly leaving thirty-one year old Mary Tudor, thirteen year old Elizabeth, and ten year old Edward Seymour to be under the care of his widow, Catherine. The next person to prevail after Henry VIII is Edward VI. Edward Seymour (King Edward’s Uncle) was the person who actually took care of the Kingdom. Catherine Parr ended up marrying her true love Thomas Seymour, the younger brother of Edward Seymour (King Edward’s uncle). But Thomas tended to be flirtatious with Elizabeth and would have tickle fights with her in the morning or would sneak into her room. So Catherine sent Elizabeth to her mother's house in Hatfield. Then Catherine sadly died of childbed fever and this made Thomas’ role in the kingdom, even more dangerous. It was rumored that he planned to marry Elizabeth and take power. He and Elizabeth were questioned and Elizabeth proved herself innocent.Thomas Seymour was taken to trial and executed. Edward VI got sick, was bedridden, and eventually died of Tuberculosis. The successor of the throne was Jane Grey. She was then proclaimed queen, a position she did not want to uphold. But while Edward VI was sick, John Dudley made up a plan to take over the kingdom. Lady Jane Grey was convicted of treason on her kingdom and overthrown. This moved Mary Tudor into place of Queen of England. Mary I ruled inadequately and killed many people throughout her time in the throne. Mary puts Elizabeth in jail, out of spite and hatred. She will earn herself the nickname “Bloody Mary” when she kills close to 300 protestants. Mary died on November 17th, 1558, this was the wondrous day that Queen Elizabeth I took the throne.
The first thing that Elizabeth did was reinstate the Protestant Church in England.
The Prayer Book of Elizabeth I is issued in 1559. Another “issue” she has to fix is the problem that the Parliament (the english legislature) would not give her any more funds if she did not marry soon. This made her mad and she said that taking care of the country is HER business and not marriage. She says that they need to stay out of her personal business and she will marry when she wants to, if she ever wants to. So with her ruling and doing a fabulous job she makes peace with France and ends a war with the Spanish. Can you say impressive? She is definitely doing a better job than her sister.
In closing, let’s say that Queen Elizabeth I is one of the most incomparable rulers ever. She can tell someone off with so much tact it's ridiculous. She also had quite the life and all with her mother being executed because she could not conceive a boy. Then being hated by her sister, then being put in jail because her sister hated her. She will forever be one of the greatest, if not the greatest ruler, of the 16th
century.
