Introduction
Maps has given humans accurate locations, and helped world-travelling become a dream to reality. However, maps weren’t always as accurate as it is now. It has taken thousands of years of research and development for maps to become accurate enough to fully rely on. Humans have invented many tools so that maps could be as accurate as possible. One of the most widely known tools would be the compass, satellite, longitude, latitude, etc. Although all these inventions have helped greatly in creating and developing maps, satellites have provided information that was incredibly accurate.
Invention-the satellite The satellite is the most recent invention that humans made that has influenced maps, and it is a truly revolutionary invention. The satellite has led technology and geography to a new stage, including the GIS(Geographic Information Systems) and the GPS(Global Positioning System). The Global Positioning System was …show more content…
first invented for military reasons, but became available for civilian use, including geographers. Although the most accurate services were reserved for the military, accuracy for citizens have improved over time. There are various types of satellites, and the GPS satellite was one of the most revolutionary satellite of all. GPS has become an extraordinarily powerful tool people could use, right from their smartphone, in their pocket. The GPS system that most people use is Android and Google maps. We had access to Google maps since 2005. Many people think that its obvious that their phone has the most accurate map ever invented since the start of humanity. But this wasn’t always the case. Google maps regularly update their maps to make it more accurate, and uses high quality images taken from satellites. The Geographic Information System, however, has a major difference with GPS. GIS captures geographical data and stores it, instead of giving an accurate position for a certain object or building like the GPS does. Geographers will find these technologies incredibly useful because they will be able to receive incredibly accurate geographical information from the satellite instead of having to actually travel lands themselves or relying on inaccurate maps. In addition, the GIS would be more accurate than any other maps because satellite images are taken from a bird’s eye-view and could spot out things that people would easily miss. Ever since the invention of the satellite, geographers were able to take their research one step further because they were able to receive extremely accurate location services and geographical information all around the world.
Development of maps over time Over time, maps have developed and changed immensely over time.
As it gradually improved, some features appeared, some disappeared over time. Firstly, Modern maps has longitude and latitude in reason for accuracy and location and usually doesn’t have a compass as it did before. In addition, old maps used to be handwritten with ink whereas these days we can find maps on the internet or maps made by machines in quality paper. Lastly, there are various types of modern maps, including height contour maps. These changes occurred because of the development of maps, and people continuously invented new ways to make a map more accurate and organized. In addition, as people proved some theories and thoughts wrong, features that existed because of those theories could have disappeared over time. For example, longitude has been invented to know where you were around the world, and helped maps become more
accurate.

Similarities
Differences
Put Asia as the largest continent
They both have both Longitude and latitude
Has borders surrounding the Earth
They both doesn’t have a compass for orientation
Put various colours in the map to represent either different continents or countries.
The early map doesn’t have a legend
The modern map has a scale whereas the early map doesn’t have one
The early map didn’t label countries at all
The early map is very inaccurate, and is missing some countries
The early map has angels with clouds surrounding them, because they believed that angels controlled the 4 elements in Earth
