How McDonalds changed fast food

“Chances are that you have had a McDonald’s meal in the past or if not, you certainly know a lot of people who have. It’s the biggest fast food chain in the world, with 32,000 outlets in 117 countries.”(Salisbury). The fast food industry has taken advantage of the fact that our daily lives have become busier and busier thus creating a simple solution by introducing cheaper food, several locations and fast service.
Over the years McDonalds has not only made it the top of the fast food chain it has also found several ways to reduce prices of their products. McDonalds was not always what it is today, McDonalds began as a small food stand soon escalating into an actual restaurant. By October 1948 the McDonald brothers realized that they made the most profit from selling hamburgers, cheeseburgers, French fries, shakes, soft drinks, and apple pies. During the early days of McDonalds fries were made from scratch but as the company became bigger and expanded nationally they sought for a cheaper solution.” …it sought to cut labor costs, reduce the number of suppliers, and ensure that its fries tasted the same at every restaurant. McDonald's began switching to frozen French fries in 1966 -- and few customers noticed the difference.”(Schlosser). McDonalds knew by cutting certain items of the menu an average middle class American can afford to eat there“-based chain had said earlier this year that it was evaluating whether to continue selling the Angus Third Pounders…The Company also said at the time that it was it was cutting Chicken Selects and Fruit & Walnut Salad.”(Choi). They also cut down on the amount of suppliers they used, by buying products that were cheaper McDonalds was able to make the prices on the menu cheaper, and the cheaper the food the more people buy it. This changed the whole idea of fast food.

He begins his argument by explaining how the fast food industry came to be and who made it happen. Carl Karcher was the biggest starting pioneer of this new industry.     McDonaldization is that McDonald’s is a worldwide fast food restaurant serving cheap and convenient food, dominating over the traditional sit down restaurants that have high prices but healthier choices. McDonald’s are not spread out but just a few miles from one another.
