Unlike, Pahóm and his wife, his sister-in-law and her family lived a luxury life in the city. One day after eavesdropping on a conversation between his wife and her older sister, he learned that his sister-in-law despised low-class living. However, his wife rebuttal her sister illiterate chat and proudly proclaimed the life she was currently living. On the other hand, Pahóm rooted for his wife, yet he thought, “Our only trouble is that we haven’t land enough. If I had plenty of land, I shouldn’t fear the Devil himself!” Although, nothing is wrong with his assumptions, but the only problem is that the devil will continue to tempt him to redeem more land, which means he will never find satisfaction in the land he obtains. “He was pleased that the peasant’s wife had led her husband into boasting and he said that if he had plenty of land he wouldn’t fear the devil himself.” He permitted his sister-in-law degrading studies to convey him into believing that an abundance of land will make the livelihood of a peasant as valuable as those that dwell in the city. It also sparked the Devil to tamper with Pahóm life, after him formulating such an imprudent thought. Yet, if he would have mastered the happiness his life provided just like his wife, then maybe all his gains would have surpluses instead of inflating. A lack of self-love could be assumed of something Pahóm experience. Denis Waitley had once averted, “To establish true self-esteem we must concentrate on our success and forget about the failures and the negatives in our lives.” If Pahóm would have focused on the things that matters the most such as: quality time with love-ones and making good out what his one life has produced. The circumstances of one’s current situation should not make one feel unloving or down about themselves. Just as content as his wife was about their financial stability, he should have felt the same way. Pahóm wife knew that a lot of gain could strongly devour when some is unconsciously about there needs and who they are. Be proud of the things that has already been accomplished or compensated.
