In both stories the consequences are caused by their greediness. In the story “How Much Land Does a Man Need” Pahom’s greediness gets the best of him and he can’t help but want more, and more land. He agrees to a deal with the Chief, which lets Pahome have all the land he wants, but he has to walk around it and return to the starting point before the sunsets. Half way through walking around the land Pahome realizes he has walked too far and believes that it is impossible to return back to the spot in time. Yet, he returns in time, but he falls face first and dies. In the end all one needs is six feet of land to be buried in. Pahome greediness caused him to work too hard just to own the arable land that it cost him his life. In the parable “The Rich Fool” the man spoke about how he didn’t have enough storage for his harvests and how he wanted to tear down his old shed and build a new bigger one. He figured this would make his life easier, and better. But the man was wrong and he turned away from God to focus on his riches. When you do this, your fate is to be condemned to Hell.
