How Reality Determines the Truth
Kathrin Aruviereh

How does reality determine personal truth?

Reality for me is lesson learned meaning experience of an outcome during an event or any situation in human life. Truth on the other hand is human action of any event or experiences. Depending on the outcome or situation, human interprets it in numerous ways. Lesson learned is what human say is truth which can result in either a success or failure to accomplish a task. Whatever the outcome, plans of either making it better or do what can be done to correct the outcome if it surfaces as negative. Always telling the truth is always a positive thing to do

Truth has always been reality to my life in so many ways. The feelings human’s posses when the truth is told is the end product to solving any situation. Because we know what the truth is, human tend to make it better to prevent either reoccurrence of any negative issue or making it better if a gain is the outcome. My current husband has two children by his previous wife. On many occasions he wished he had never met her because of the deceit in the relationship that generated a negative outcome. I can honestly say the truth set him free when he found out that his oldest son was not his biological son. However, he remained in caring for him as his biological son because he was in denial.

Four years later, reality sets in and had asked the mother to reveal the truth to the now 15 year old son which is the real thing to do and to come to reality that someday the truth will definitely be revealed. I know there are numerous stories out there much worse than mine; however as human, I would want honesty to be the truth. The truth is real life experiences that I have had since my growing age is reality to me and I pray that I make better choices. If I had stayed in school, I wouldn’t be here today going through high school at this age. Reality had set in and now it is mandatory for me to rectify what mess I have created for myself.

In conclusion, reality is

Danny’s mom had a suspicion of what her son was of participating in. He had been suspended from school, and burglarized several homes including getting caught by the police. Then her car keys go missing that night, I would suspect that he may take part in some illegal late night activities, even if it was just late night joy riding. I am not a mother yet but if I was his mother, even though it would be hard I would have to take some responsibility for his actions, since I didn’t question or look harder for my keys that night. With that idea I think I would maybe even blame myself a little for my child’s death. I know that I might act differently if I am put in that situation but there is so much against her…

I am honest. Telling the truth can be hard for people to do but not me. Telling the truth can be hard for people to hear. But it is the only way for us to better ourselves or to move past an event in our lives. I have seen the affects growing up of how my father lied to my mother and the damage that is can cause. Honesty allows us to build trust which is such an important bond that we build with our family, friends and even total strangers. As I am getting older I am realizing that honest is always the best policy but it matters on how you deliver the honesty.…

The truth tears people apart, and more often than not it’s better that people don’t hear the full story. The novel, The Great Gatsby, outlines this point extraordinarily well. The first, and most powerful example from this novel, involves Wilson, the broken owner of a run-down auto shop. Wilson's life came to a crashing halt when he discovered Myrtle, his wife, is having an affair. He immediately decides to skip town with Myrtle to escape the corruption of the east. He went from being a decently happy man, to a man who had his ego crushed, and his confidence ruined. Interestingly, nothing changed at all regarding the reality of Wilson’s life. Myrtle was always having the affair, and Wilson was always ridiculed by her. In fact, only Wilson's view of reality has changed; his ignorance toward Myrtle's secret life no longer tricked him. Wilson’s ignorance protected him, and showed him the world he would have rather lived in. If he would have remained ignorant, not only would he have remained happy, but Myrtle would never have ran into the street at all. Simple knowledge destroyed Wilson’s life, and ultimately ended it. This goes to show that people can not always handle reality in its purest form. There will always be something someone would rather have not known. So, just like Wilson, we live our lives partially ignorant to, and partially ignoring, the fact that reality, in its truest form, will tarnish even the boldest of…

In the first place, it is important to keep in mind that truth is an abstract concept, meant to disqualify lie and liars by approving or not a statement. But truth is also linked to reality in the sense of it is a conformity to a fact in which one should trust, it has to be seen to be believed. Finally, it is important to dicover the “true truth” about fact and fiction, between history and the story.…

Lies are commonly told to protect others emotions and their self-esteem, yet lies still are seen as wrong. So why is it so hard sometimes to handle the truth? Isn’t it better to be hearing the truth than being lied to your face? Maybe the problem is not the lies themselves, but we as a people lacking the ability to understand the truth and its effects that it can have. This would require that we learn better ways to resolve conflicts and the capabilities to move on from those situations. We need to question, “Would I rather be deceived right now and have the conflict become worse later, or get it over with right now?” Once we learn the benefits of telling the truth and become capable of understanding these benefits then we will be able to live in a society of complete honesty.…

What is a lesson? A lesson means an experience, especially an unpleasant one that somebody can learn from, so it does not happen again in the future. And everyone probably had a lesson of some sort before. For me, I have had many lessons throughout my life already, from small things, like you should always bring an umbrella with you to school, never run with your wallet in your pocket, to something big like studying hard before a test. And these mistakes probably changed my life in ways.…

Anyone who has ever read "An Occurrence at Owl Creek Bridge" will not soon forget. The storyline creates fantasy with verbal irony, dramatic irony, and irony of situation. The story is brilliantly written and full of suspense; with the superior use of character and the technique in the narrative flows together to produce irony with the intention to provoke surprise. This story is told with emotional realism, but irony in situation ending secures it vividly into the reader's mind.…

    Perception vs. Reality

    • 363 Words
    • 2 Pages

Perception and reality are two completely different ideas, they are accepted as they are understood and acted upon what is seen. Perception is how a person can see something whereas reality is how things actually are. For example, if you are driving and see the car in from of you, your perception would be that they are drunk driving but when they get pulled over by the police down the road, reality would say that the person was having a diabetic seizure. Most people have different perception but we all have the same reality. One person would think that someone is drunk driving while the other thinks that the driver is just messing around with his kids. In the cartoon, there is a man stranded on an island and a man in a boat approaching the island. They both shout out “I’m saved!” but in fact the man on the island is tired of being there and the man on the boat is tired of being at sea. They both have the idea that if they switch places they will be in a better position but will soon turn out to be in the same position as the other person. As I stated earlier, people have a different perception on certain things but the reality will always be the same. The meaning of this picture, in my opinion, is that people can see things from their point of view and act upon it differently than another person in the same position. They can have different thoughts, ideas, even actions but in the end they will end up doing almost the same thing. The man on the island is excited to go on the boat to try and get home but after being on that boat for a while he will realize that he would much rather on the island. The man on the boat approaching the island is excited to get off the boat but will soon realize he would rather be with the other person so he is not alone. The difference is what is real versus what is seen.…

Why we believe what we see? Actually, the real reason why our eyes deceive us is that our eyes function in our brains. The eye is quite a complex part of the body. There are more than a billion parts work together in the same time. The vision is an important sense which is supported by the brain that receives the information from the eye. Firstly, as light enters the eye, “it passes through a thin transparent protective shield on the front of the eye”, which is called the cornea. The clear cornea helps the eye to focus the incoming light by bending them. Then the rays enter the pupil. “Pupil is the black hole in the center of the eye”, which regulates the amount of light incoming. Moreover, as light conditions change, the iris, as the colored part of the eye, may also control more or less light into the eye by expanding to make the pupil bigger or shrinking to make the pupil smaller. Thirdly, after light travels through the pupil, it will pass through the lens, which is controlled by a band of muscle named the ciliary muscle. Actually, just like the lens of a camera, the human lens is responsible to focus light. It can change its shape to make the nearby or far distant objects reflect on the retina clearly. Fourthly, light is going to enter the retina after passing through the centre of the eye vitreous. “The retina is a thin, light sensitive membrane that lines the inner of the eye”. Much like film in a camera, it is responsible for converting the vision to the optic nerve. What’s more, the centre of the retina is called the macula. Because it contains a high concentration of photoreceptor, it can tell the brain what we are seeing. As the last step, “optic nerve sends all visual information from the eye to the brain”, which is what we see at last. Because of these, sometimes we are treated by ourselves.…

Today, people are born into a generation where people care only for themselves more than ever. People want the best and nothing but the best. In Jean Twinge’s essay, “An Army of One: Me,” it focuses on the self-esteem that people have and how it is related to the happiness in which people want to feel. Having high self-esteem will contribute to being more confident, which will lead to an individual taking on their goals head on. Also, both Leslie Bell’s, “Selections from Hard to Get: Twenty-Something Women and the Paradox of Sexual Freedom,” and Daniel Gilbert’s, “Immune to Reality,” offer insight on the matter of pursuit of happiness. Each individual has their own way of knowing when they are happy and only they will know when the feeling is reached. When self-esteem is dependent on competence, individuals invest a great deal of effort in their accomplishments and success in order to validate themselves, which leads to the state of feeling happy.…

My life as a teenager would soon be coming to an end and my life as mommy would be coming up faster then expected. It all started June 10th 2012, my family and I had just finished eating our dinner celebrating my achievement of getting my GED. I had received cards, gifts, and even some money from my family members for finally receiving this GED after being out of school for my senior year. Everybody was so happy for me even my dad, which was not a very common emotion for him to express towards me. Unfortunately their happiness would soon be long gone. For it was the night before this that I had five different tests all of which said the same thing in different ways, I was pregnant. I was not ready for this kind of responsibility. I was not ready physically, emotionally, and financially to take care of even myself yet now I had to find a way to provide all of those things for a child. I was only seventeen, turning eighteen in July; I was still a child myself. To many people I would be viewed as a delinquent because of getting pregnant. On the other hand, others might have seen this coming since my mom also had me at a young age. Many also believe all teens who get pregnant will fail. Although these beliefs and views from others were in my head at the time, I knew I needed to tell my family I was pregnant, find out how far along I was, and make a life changing decision.…

Imagine a man who is in his mid-forties, he has a nice house and nice car, with 2 beautiful children, ages 14 and 18. He is one of those parents who has done everything and anything for his kids, as any parent would. He has gone through all the hard times of raising them and taking care of them, and they are almost on that brink of becoming adults. Then one Friday night, he gets a call at 2:45 in the morning. It’s the police. They start off with “We regret to inform you….” And proceed to tell him that his 18-year-old son, the one who had just mowed the lawn earlier that day and taken out the trash, his pride and joy, was now dead. They say the cause of death was that he had been drinking,…

Beverly Naidoo’s interesting novel ‘The Other Side of Truth’ shows how telling the truth at all times may become an issue in certain scenarios. In this novel two Nigerian children, Sade and Femi, have to flee to England without anyone else they know, after their mother is shot by the Nigerian government, in order to be safe. Naidoo emphasises the difficulties that always telling the truth can cause, through the theme of problems with the truth. I will explain how Naidoo conveys this message in this essay.…
