How Social media has a bad effect on society

As we approach 2014 social media has been very advantageous communicating tool for people of all ages to use. However behind closed doors social media is strangling the life out of the younger generation. Now of course I do not mean this literally, and in many ways sites like Facebook and Twitter promote to teenagers about making friends and widening their friend circles which is excellent-in theory.
This has in my opinion got out of hand and scientists have been able to come up new psychological evidence that shows that teenagers have increased aggression in their moods and lack of empathy which increases the possibility of schizophrenia and depression. Most teenagers I talk to say that they can’t imagine a world without social media and an astounding 96% of people have at one point signed up to one of these sites. The newly discovered FoMo syndrome has come hand in hand with the social media craze, which is the Fear of Missing out. This syndrome means that people are glued onto their social media sites constantly refreshing the pages because they are so afraid of missing out on something important or interesting.
Arguably the biggest problem with Social Media is Cyberbullying. This is not your average school bullying in the sense it can be controlled by people, on social networking sites bullies don’t get told off by anyone or restricted by anyone and can continue as they see fit. Another difficulty with online bullying is that the attacker can hide behind their computer and are shadowed by this. A lot of people would not have the courage to say things in person to one another but on Facebook people seem to be more outgoing and some completely have a change of personality and become a lot more confident.
Ask.fm over the last year has been linked to 9 cyberbullying evoked suicides and has been the centre of many petitions about the site being taken down. On this site people can anonymously ask questions to the

“What Adolescents Miss When we let them grow Up in Cyberspace” written by Brent Staples is a great essay and has many strong points. But I’m going to disagree with this one. The fact that staples has argued that the internet is taking over teenagers social life has offended me and my generation. I differ with his arguments. I believe that the internet has made today’s teenagers more socialize and more connected than ever. Facebook, msn, gmail, twitter etc is a great tool for teenagers to stay in touch and makes it easier for each of them to communicate. The internet is a great tool for teenagers to meet and make new friends around the world. I believe that the internet has made teenagers more attentive than before. Let’s use twitter as an example. Twitter is a social site where you and other people update your status. It is a site where you can check what your friends are doing at the moment. It is a great tool to broadcast news to people (including teenagers who does not read or watch the news) without even turning the TV on or reading a long article from a newspaper. It is a wonderful site to keep each individual updated and informed with each other and around the world.…

Social media effects millions of people worldwide daily and many teens spend at least a hour a day on social networking sites, today we will decide whether or not social media is a hindrance or a tool for teens and adults. Although with time all generations have come to accept the new technologies and offspring that it has, one of the offspring from technology in the 21st century is social media. Social networking has brought about, teenagers and young adults are the most fanatic users of these sites. According to various research studies in the field of online social networks, it has been revealed that these sites are impacting the lives of the youth greatly. When using these sites such as Twitter, Facebook or MySpace, there are both positive and negative effects on the youth and today we are going to contrast the two sides to see if the negative effects outweigh the positive effects. Some of the points that will be argued are that many people believe the use of social media helps with communicating but is not allowing us to make connections with the people we are interacting with. One of the most negative effects of social media is the reoccurring cases of cyber bullying; almost all teens that have social media accounts have seen or been involved in cyber bullying. Lastly we will discuss many positive effects of social media and how it can help keep people connected from all over the world.…

Growing up I would hear the wheels of skateboards rolling down the paved street, soccer balls being kicked against the wind, and constant chatter of disagreements from friends about where to go and what to do next. Now, kids and adults come home from school or work and are instantly linked in, stuck to a screen like a zombie, browsing through Facebook and twitter to see the latest deception of entertainment. I have witnessed and seen the decline of mental and physical abilities due to social media. If social media keeps becoming the past time for kids and adults than our society will become less responsive using free time wisely, shorting attention span, and less communication when faced with a one on one situation.…

Each generation spends their childhoods in different ways. As for this century, Millennials find themselves trapped in the world of media, populated by televisions, radio, magazines, mobile phones, laptops and the Internet, which gives young adults access to what most young adults crave, social media. There seems to be no decline for “the social networking movement.” Just a few examples of the seemingly infinite types of online networking are: Facebook, Twitter, Instagram, Linkedin and YouTube. According to Amanda Lenhart, of New…

Social media has made it so that it is easy to contact your friends at any time, talk to anyone, anywhere, but it has also made it so that we spend too much time on it. Many people now just sit on their phone or skype and talk to friends virtually, and while you are still communicating with your friends, the experience of going out and doing something is lost. People aren’t getting enough fresh air, and we are seeing more obese people. Kids now just sit on the couch and talk to their friends while playing video games. While it is okay to communicate using social media with people when you are not able to see them, people are relying on social media to communicate with people right beside…

It was interesting how people kept how they feel about themselves a secret. I believe social media is ruining today’s society. Nothing is black and white, social media is neither completely ruining today’s society or making it better. Social media is just a tool, and it depends how we use it. People tell others to commit suicide daily, personal information is stolen, harmful parody web pages are made just for the sake of mocking people. Social media can be destructive, but that is certainly not the only side to the story when it can also be used as a vessel for positivity as people band together to do and create amazing things. Basically, it is not social media itself, but what it allows of human behaviour that is “ruining today’s society”. I know there are good and inspiring stuff that goes on today's social media, but unfortunately the goods are far outweighed. People are posting all kinds of things, inappropriate language, video's and photo's. People use it to bully others (cyber bullying). Identity's are copied and someone pretends to be someone else. All the beautiful people, celebs and show offs can lead to destruction within person. There are also privacy concerns and you could be hacked or tracked through social media and that can lead to serious consequences. People waste so much time and a majority of their lives on it. You never know who you are talking to it could be anyone. People are using slang and text talk which is bad for their English. These are just some of the reasons I find social media is ruining today's…

As time changes almost everyone around the world spends time using internet instead watching television these days. They seek help from internet, communicate through internet, and play games online and many more. People starting from minor to adult, they all love to be in the very popular social networking sites such as “Facebook” and “Twitter”. Actually, these sites are very helpful to us only if we know how to use it in a proper way like medicine becomes drug if we don’t know how to eat. But, as we all say “Too much of anything is not good” people waste a lot of time in these sites daily unnecessarily. Time is previous, time is money and money is power.…

Social media has both positive and negative outcomes to the people lives. The negative ones are the privacy question, how the privacy is not well protected in social media; isolation, how when people enter the social media world they kind of turn off themselves from the rest of the world; the propaganda, how through the social media people’s brains are being brainwashed, social media use techniques to change the individual’s values and beliefs and also the negative impact on the health, where sometimes the social media can lead people to being depressed or sad or just tired.…
