How Stress Affects The Body
Stress is a natural physical and mental reaction both good and bad that may be beneficial to the body’s health and also safety. The body responds to the stress by releasing hormones and increasing the heart and breathing rates. The brain receives more oxygen by giving the body an edge in responding to a problem. Also, in short term stress helping the body cope with tough situations. Stress can affect the body in many different ways. In the central nervous system there is a charge of the “fight to fight” response. The central nervous system instantly lets the rest of the body know what to do gathering all resources to the cause. What happens to the brain is that the hypothalamus gets the ball rolling which is telling the adrenal glands to release adrenaline and cortisol. If the perceived fear disappear the CNS is going to tell all the systems to go back to normal, it will take toll of the body. Symptoms of chronic stress include irritability, anxiety, and also depression. The body may suffer from headaches or insomnia. The chronic stress is a factor in may be some behavior, like overeating or maybe not eating enough alcohol or drugs abuse, or social with drawl. …show more content…
During stress the body breather faster in an effort to affect the oxygen and blood quickly to the body core. If the body has preexisting respiratory problems like asthma and emphysema, which makes it harder to breathe. By stress affecting the body’s breathing it causes the heart to pump faster. The stress hormones causes the body’s blood pressure. All which helps get oxygen to the brain and the heart so that the body has more energy and strength to take action? Frequent and chronic stress that makes the heart work too hard for too long, which rises the risk of hypertension and problems with the blood vessels and the heart. The body is at a higher risk of having a stroke or a heart

    Stress could be defined as a normal physiological response by the body to situations or stimuli which the brain perceives as dangerous or threatening to the body. The body is a complex system and over time developed a way of responding that was designed to keep us safe. Our subconscious mind is alert for anything that might threaten our well being and when the brain perceives a threat a physiological response occurs that prepares us to either fight or run. This response is caused by a release of adrenocorticotrophic releasing hormone being released from the hypothalamus which then stimulates the pituitary gland to secret the adrenocorticotrophic hormone. This is turn then stimulates the adrenal glands to release adrenaline and cortisol. The release of these hormones cause a number of changes in the body to prepare for us to either fight whatever is threatening us or flight , ie run away to safety. The heart starts beating faster to pump oxygenated blood round the body faster to all the muscles. The blood pressure rises to assist in the movement of blood. Blood is diverted from less vital organs, such as the stomach, and the respiratory rate increases to get more oxygen into the body. Our senses also become more acute. For example, pupils dilate to allow in more light and hearing becomes more sensitive. Once these and other changes have taken place, the body is then ready to tackle the threat. Our ancestors faced stressful situations frequently and were required to fight or run to stay alive. In current times, we may not have to fight or run to be safe, but our brains still respond to perceived threats in the same way. We all suffer from stress at some…
