What is technology? According to Webster, “Technology is the branch of knowledge that deals with the creation and use of technical means and their interrelation with life, society, and the environment, drawing upon such subjects as industrial arts, engineering, applied science, and pure science.” The development of technology in last 20 years has improved lives through invention. Technology has positively and negatively affected three main spheres of our lives: medicine, education, and communication. The largest part of society that may have benefitted from the advancements in technology is probably the field of healthcare. Technology has aided scientific research to find cures or control many diseases. Over the years pandemics, such as AIDS have been brought under control. Medical research has led to the creation of advanced drugs that has helped cure many diseases or helped the prevention of it. Technological advancement has also helped invention of newer equipment that helps detect an issue in early stages of the medical condition. This has impacted and improved the lives of millions. Advancement in this field has also impacted me personally. Technology has helped communication between doctors and patients. Personal records of patients are kept in digital format such as x-rays, blood reports etc that enable the doctors to read the report and diagnose patients faster. The development of technology has been effective in area of education too. Internet has been the greatest boon for education. It helps children access help on the web for learning and homework. More people are acquiring education through e-learning and online classes. Technology is a factor that has brought the world together through communication. Advances in cell-phone and internet technologies has brought the world together by reaching people from remote locations all around the world.
