Her body resembles someone with an eating disorder. In attaining the “perfect” body, many young women resort to eating disorders such as bulimia and anorexia to achieve the “ideal” body image. These “ideal” body images are portrayed in television, magazines, billboards, and music videos. As the main character is standing in front of the mirror, the camera does a close up shot of her body and the camera lens zooms in on her sporting a pair of “Barbie” leggings. The symbolism presented by the images of Barbie scream perfection. Barbie has for years been linked to issues that pertain to achieving the perfect body. In the video, it shows my main character evolving from a little girl into a young content woman. Throughout the entirety of the video a teddy bear was present. My interpretation of the symbolism that the teddy bear represented is the existence of a constant presence in her life. The teddy bear took all the journeys she did. It was there with her when she was at her worse. It later becomes a sign of hope for her during her darkest moment as she hurts herself by cutting into her skin. This scene displays her in a tub carving the word “perfect” in her skin. She seems lost. As she scans the bathroom, her eyes focus in on her teddy bear that is propped up in the corner. The teddy bear reminds her of the good that is possible and draws her out of her negative state. I interpret the character as having attained happiness in all areas of her life by the end of the video. The main character is able to pass the teddy bear on by gifting it to a little girl who looks to be her daughter. The act of giving the teddy bear to her daughter represents the main character's life coming full circle. It is sort of like the passing of the torch from her as a mother to her daughter. Her daughter in times of need can find comfort and hope when faced with her own challenges as she grows up. Having something to depend or find comfort in as the character
