V. TO FURNISH (A LITERARY WORK) WITH CRITICAL
COMMENTARY OR EXPLANATORY NOTES
 What does this mean???
 Put simply, you write notes about what you read while you are reading it! It’s “reading with a pencil.”
 THESE ARE IMPORTANT NOTES!! WRITE THEM IN YOUR NOTES
SECTION!

CHARACTER LIST
 Write a synopsis of each character  Are they a major part of the text?  Important Quotes or
References
 This could be in list or map form at the front of your text
(build as you read)

VOCABULARY
 Circle any unknown words
 Circle context clues that help you define the term
 Use a dictionary to define the term and record in ON THE
TEXT
 Write a synonym you are more comfortable with ON THE TEXT

PARAPHRASE (SUMMARY)
 Write a summary of the MAIN
IDEAS (in bigger essays do this every 2-3 paragraphs)
 In poetry you do this every stanza  In books you do this every chapter  This is in your own words

MEMORABLE / IMPORTANT
 Underline anything that strikes you as important, memorable, or significant
 Underline if you find the answer to a question…even one that YOU had
 Note why you underlined it

    The first article I read was "Christian Counseling, Interpersonal Neurobiology, and the Future" by Tim Clinton and Gary Sibcy. This article was about creating ground breaking and biblically based strategies based on observation and experiment instead of theory. It discusses the rising field of interpersonal neurobiology. I enjoyed reading this article because it discussed how psychotherapy relates biblically yet connects one 's mind, the body, the brain (including genetics), the environment, and especially the role of close relationships (Clinton & Sibcy, 2012).
