How To Cheerleading
Entranced by the intense lights and echoing noise, my team and I walked onto the ESPN Wide World of Sports’ stage grasping one another’s clammy hands. We were at the all-levels cheerleading worlds, The Summit, where we had earned an invitation to compete. Shaking in the cooled Orlando field house as the pressure swelled and nerves developed, however, signified the moment in which I realized the importance of this performance. Surprisingly, the imperativeness was not the routine itself, but the preparation which had come beforehand. Having been either a sideline or competitive cheerleader since the 3rd grade, my life has been devoted to cheerleading; hours of practice, sacrifices of social events, and moments of near emotional and physical …show more content…
From doubting my skills to fearing the outcome of a performance in the future, the opportunity to persevere was always available. I learned to take full advantage of such chances. While facing adversity I learned how to empower myself and persist despite the odds. Although cheerleading demands my finest diligence, such requests appear daily at school, work, or almost anywhere else. This determination to overcome inside and outside of my cheerleading uniform will persist with me throughout my next chapter, regardless of the circumstances. A second prominent lesson I obtained due to cheerleading is the aptitude to live with encouragement. In cheerleading, success can only be reached by a team that is composed of heartening and positive individuals. This necessity challenged me to personally grow and develop myself into a better teammate, student, and overall person. Whether this upbeat attitude pertains to contributing my full effort at practice or completing my best schoolwork, I consistently find myself reaching toward positivity thanks to the outlook cheerleading has pushed me to …show more content…
From the joyous moments of receiving national championship jackets, to the heartbreaking experiences of defeat, I have learned that hard work produces success, best effort results in growth, and a strive for perfection generates greatness. When I realized that even in hardships I was still growing, the option to surrender myself to fearless hard work was a painless choice. This work ethic has translated into my daily life, especially pertaining to school. I consistently strive to produce my best possible work, think beyond the obvious, and persevere through hardships. The relentlessness which cheerleading has produced in me will undoubtedly exist in my next chapter of

A significant reason I continued cheerleading in college was my desire for a team environment and support system of upperclassmen to look up to and underclassmen to provide a fresh look. Feinberg’s team-based care model is most conducive to the type of environment off which I have thrived my entire life. Moreover, as many of my endeavors have been inspired by the mentorships of my coaches and principle investigator, I look forward to building a similar enriching relationship with a long-term mentor in medical school. Furthermore, longitudinal aspects of FSM’s Health and Society portion stand out as they focus on the very components that drive my passion for the field. Through my personal spiritual journey, exercise hobbies, and experience mentoring…

It teaches the importance of certain life qualities and some lessons to take away. The cheerleaders compete at compititions against other teams. Knowing this information still makes people indecisive in their decision of if cheer qualifies as a sport. According to Eileen Lofrese (Macedo, 2010, para. 10-11), most people can’t decide whether cheer is a sport or not because of its inconsistency. Some schools may only have a cheer team that cheers at games, but other schools have a competitive varsity team. Coach Stevens (personal communication, January 20, 2016) says that she believes cheer is a sport that isn’t fully developed yet. She…

As the year progressed I became accustomed to the tight nit ship that was run by cheer phi. But to my surprise there was a turn of events. After our second football game the cheer captain warmed the frozen grimaced lump in her chest, where her heart should be. She asked the whole team if they wanted to go out to a party so we can bond. I must admit I was taken aback but her sudden change of heart. To me her out of the blue interest in the new girls stunned me. Nevertheless I chose not to go simply because I had no desire…

As we entered the last week of practice, I wanted relish what I thought would be the last few moments of the season. The varsity head coach was present at the last day of practice, and I was surprised when he pulled me aside during a drill. He told me that he had noticed my success during the season, and he wanted me to join the varsity team; for the varsity team still had two weeks of practice left before the state tournament. I held in my excitement and accepted his offer.…

Most people have an activity that they highly enjoy and would recommend to other people close to them. Some activities that people enjoy can be educational while others are more of a hobby. An activity that is educational that I enjoy doing is cheerleading. I have been a cheerleader every year since I was seven years old. Needless to say, I love the sport and everything that has to do within the sport. Cheerleading is a sport that teaches discipline, assertiveness, and how to form bonds with other people. Cheerleading for females officially began in the 1920's at the University of Minnesota. In addition, NFL teams started using cheerleaders to add a little support in the 1960's. It more than likely originated a little earlier than the 1920's,…

Cheerleading is a physical activity that I think most are aware of. Some qualify it as a sport which should receive the same notoriety as an even more familiar game such as basketball. Jennie Yabroff belongs to that community. There are also those who dismiss it as mindless women dancing for their health. I myself at one point in my life doubted the aspects of cheering and didn’t qualify it as a legitimate sport. I have grown out of that stubborn mindset and held cheering to the same standards as other sports. Jennie Yarbroff has something to say to the sport of cheering doubters and she defends the sport throughout her essay.…

When I decided to join cross country team my freshman year, I never envisioned myself being a part of what would become known as “the best team in Hammonton history.” Three years ago, I finished the season as one of the very worst on the team, with no expectations being placed on me for the future. Fast forward to one month ago, when I along with my fellow six varsity teammates lead Hammonton to its first Atlantic County Championship in school history. While much of my improvement can be attributed to my physical growth over the years, I would have never reached that level of success if I did not realize how important it is to maximize my effort in everything that I do. My success in Cross Country was not as much caused by my physical development, but more so by the evolution of my mentality.…

Many people do not consider cheerleading to be a sport, even though the athleticism required and the danger involved in the activities performed still are not considered to make this a sport, but cheerleading meets all of these aspects but it’s not getting the sports status. Not only is cheerleading a sport but it is one of the most difficult and dangerous sports in the world. According to researcher Wayne Drehs, in the magazine “Athletes include cheerleaders.” It has become a great argument in which cheerleading should have the sport status. Cheerleading is a school activity with gifted young athletes that work just as hard as any other sport.…

As the varsity cheerleading captain, it is my responsibility to show sportsmanship and school spirit whenever I am performing at games. However, I bring this pride in my school with me wherever I go; not just at games. I show school spirit at pep assemblies and other school events, always cheering on my fellow students and encouraging them. I truly care about the school as well, keeping up to date on the minutes from the board meetings and asking my parents about the boosters meetings. If there is ever an improvement that I think could be made or something that could be changed to benefit Dakota, I am quick to bring it up. I take pride in our school grounds as well, always respecting the property and encouraging my peers to do as well. I also am very avid about giving back to the community in any way that I can, as they have done so much for our school over the…

They build relationships that enable them to learn from each other” (2007). Which is seen through practices of both teams, collaborating to achieve new stunts, forming ever lasting relationships by the level of trust which must be placed in all members to perform the necessary movements to execute each stunt safely. Lastly Wenger believes the practice of “Members of a community of practice are practitioners. They develop a shared repertoire of resources: experiences, stories, tools, ways of addressing recurring problems—in short a shared practice. This takes time and sustained interaction” (2007). We see this within cheerleading at the collegiate level due to the necessities of prior knowledge of the sport, and the high competitive nature reached as a division one program at CU. Having background knowledge of the three categories of cheerleading; stunting, tumbling, and cheer, are detrimental to the development of the teams. Each member of both teams bring previous knowledge and experience to the program allowing collaboration in order to achieve…

In high school, I experienced the most competitive years of my life. When I was going through a transition from junior high to high school, I realized my love for Cheerleading. Even though I wasn't ready for competitive Cheerleading, cheerleading was all I knew from middle school. In my ninth grade year, I tried out for the high school cheerleading team, I had been attending cheerleading camps and clinics to learn all that I needed to know to hopefully make it the squad, I had remembered what my mother had said and how hard it was for her to get on her squad. I did not let that discourage me, I gave it my all and to my surprise my hard work had finally paid off. I was so excited that I made the…
