How to Deal with Depression
I have gone through a lot in the past few years. A few years ago, I became very depressed. Everything and anything would set me off. My sister, Vicki was murdered 24 years ago. One of many triggers has always been her death. Her murder was never solved. My depression was at its lowest when I began having financial problems. I would become so depressed at times that I would cry for hours. I never thought I could crawl out of that hole. At work, I was unable to work. At night, I was unable to sleep.(Elaine, G)
Depression profoundly impairs the ability to function in everyday situations by affecting moods, thoughts, behaviors, and physical well-being. Persons who are constantly depressed tend to be lonely and have no one to talk to or look to for guidance. Employing the following steps will help person’s who are depressed:by stop living in self pity, asking for assistance and seeing a psychiatrist.

The first step to dealing with depression is for depressed persons to stop living in self pity. In this stage depressed person’s should treathim/her self as if he/she is important he/she should not doubt him/her self and say that he/she doesn’tt deserve certain luxuries in life. Insteadhe/she should tell him/her self that he/she is special and treat him/her self as if he/she is too. Remember that no matter what misfortune he/she encounters, It is not the end of the world. According to the National Institute of Mental Health (NIMH), Depression strikes about 17 million American adults each year--more than cancer, AIDS, or coronary heart disease. According to Dr. Tony Vendryes, A study of 80 Adults thay were between the ages of 20-45 were diagnosed with mild to modeerate depression, and researchers looked at exercise alone to treat the condition and found that those person’s who participated in the exercise 5 times a week for twelve weeks shwed a 30% reduction in symptoms. Yet the practical problem was that depressed person’s are less inclined to exercise. This

    It has long been speculated that there is a relationship between exercise and it effects on anxiety and depression. However, it is not until recently that research has shown that exercise is associated with positive changes in mood and reductions in anxiety and depression. According to the Mental Health Victoria, depression is characterised by prolonged feelings of sadness, dejection and hopelessness and will affect one in four women and one in six men at some point in their lives. In the United States, anxiety disorders and depression are the most common mental health disorders costing the public $45 billion a year (Berger, Pargman & Weinberg, 2002, pp. 398). Although people typically deal with these mood disturbances through psychological counseling, drug therapy, or both, more and more individuals are looking to exercise to promote their psychological well-being (Berger, Pargman & Weinberg, 2002, pp. 398). The effects of exercise can be classified as either acute or chronic. Acute meaning immediate, but not necessarily, temporary effects arising from a single bout of exercise, and chronic relating to the long-term effects of exercise focusing on changes over time (Berger, Pargman & Weinberg, 2002, pp. 398). The vast majority of research on the relationship between exercise and psychological well-being has used aerobic exercise and it was once believed that exercise needed to be of a sufficient duration and intensity to produce positive effects, however, more recent studies have indicated that high-intensity aerobic activity is not completely necessary to produce positive benefits, and that activities such as weight or strength training and other non-aerobic exercises can produce positive effects on psychological well-being (Berger, Pargman & Weinberg, 2002, pp. 399).…
