How To Do An Applebee's Restaurant
Applebee’s Restaurant For our assignment we chose to do an Applebee’s restaurant. We were able to set up our camera next to the bar area and facing the transition zone. We began taping in the early to mid-evening time, and taped for about 20 minutes. The information that we received was rather interesting. One thing that we noticed right away was that the majority of people entering the restaurant came in pairs (typically, but not always, one male and one female.) All patrons are greeted by someone who opens the door for them. Upon entering they are then greeted by another person who asks them where they would like to be seated (smoking or non-smoking.) The typical wait to be seated during this time was about 1-2 minutes. Another

The environment and atmosphere of this restaurant is a very sketchy and unprofessional feeling. The servers make customers feel that they are a bother to them. The music that plays all day long is country, blasting over the restaurant, which made it hard to hear anyone talk. The inside is not kept up either. Parts of the ceiling were falling onto tables and the floor and the server simply stated that it was because of the rain but never did anything about it. The bathrooms…

Third, the whole place was extremely loud. The waitress couldn’t even hear what our orders were. I understand that a large restaurant will have a lot of people that will talk, but we weren’t even able to talk to people at our table without having to yell. We could even hear other table’s conversations near us about disgusting things. I probably will never…

Stated is what I observed: • During the whole time that I was observing, no workers came up to me • I observed that out of all the sauces provided in the sauce bar, creamy garlic was the most popular • All sides were made before customers arrived and were arranged in the middle of the kitchen in metal tubs. This could be for easy access and faster serving time. • Why did customers prefer sitting down and eating at the restaurant rather than ordering to go? • Why did a majority of customers come in groups rather than alone? • I observed two interviews that occurred in the restaurant, one with a girl who seems young, maybe a teenager, and one with an older lady, maybe in the late…

Every time I go to this diner the service is the first thing I notice. Normally after walking through the door and finding a seat, a server is with us in just a minute or two. The server is right there for us, if we need anything. We find that the staff is fun to be around and they treat us like we are friends or family, joking, laughing, and having a good fun time. Since they are open throughout the night there can be some issues that arise because of crowds from the bars and clubs. Sometimes it can be a loud place and if there are a lot of people then we may have to wait for service because there is only one server. The crowds from the bars and clubs can get unruly at times and cause problems with other customers but the staff tries to keep it a calm and fun place.…

Their attention was focused on the task at hand and there was no sight of anyone being unproductive. When we entered the restaurant, we were given a warm and friendly greeting by a hostess. The wait for a table on a Friday night was only about 20 minutes, and the electronic guest caller made the waiting experience hassle free. From the time we were sat, and throughout the entire dining experience, we never felt rushed and all of our requests were accommodated. We observed all staff conduct themselves in a professional manner. Training was evident in the manner we were spoken to, especially when the server suggested a number of items seamlessly. She displayed a great deal of product knowledge and was not too pushy when it came to…

The nature of the products and services provided in the restaurant industry are based on customer satisfaction with the food and services that each location provides. Providing a selection of delicious and well-presented food made with quality ingredients that are simple and good tasting is exactly what the customer wants. Most customers go to restaurants to meet with others socially in a friendly environment. Making sure the restaurant is clean, attractive, and the décor is consistent with the food and restaurant’s image and making sure the waiting staff knows that it is ok to allow customers to linger adds to the customer’s satisfaction in a restaurant. The restaurant industry is highly competitive in terms of price, service, location, and food quality and is often affected by changes in consumer trends, economic conditions, demographics, and the concerns about the nutritional content of the food.…

Service is a very popular element in a casual dining restaurant. During my experience, the service turned out to be pretty good. If I had to give it a number between one being terrible and ten being terrific, I would give it an eight. When I visited Hickory Park, I was with my high school speech group, which had about 15 people in it. That weekend, like usual, Ames was hosting the large group all-state speech festival. This draws in a ton of people to Ames. Hickory Park is where everyone wants to eat; and I mean everyone! So like I expected, we had to wait outside for about 30 minutes because the restaurant was full. I know that there is not much they can do about the restaurant being full. That is just something people who visit during busy times have to deal with. One way to avoid people standing outside would be to make a bigger waiting…

For my ethnography project, I will choose to study the life of a restaurant located a couple of blocks from my apartment. The name of the restaurant will be anonymous, so I will just refer to it as “Restaurant X,” in addition, I will call the employees in this project by other names to protect their privacy. The main purpose of this ethnography is to compare the norms of the employees when the manager is present at Restaurant X and when he or she is absent. Norms are the behavior within a society or a group.…

The first visit, was with my entire family, making it a party of nine. There was no room for such a large party, but the manager made it work and got us a table within ten minutes. One of the waiters went over quickly and noted our drinks down, and under five minutes everyone was sipping on their drinks. After ordering, the food took about fifteen to twenty minutes to arrive at our table. Everything looked and smelled delicious, my mouth got watery instantly. The tortillas and guacamole were made right in front of us. From the host to the waiter, service was wonderful. They smiled genuinely every time.…

Every job I have had has been in a restaurant. Yet I have never have taken the time to look at the customers. I have experienced and learned an unbelievable amount of information about other people than I could ever imagine during this observation. There are two different types of went to. The first is a breakfast place called IHOP (International House of Pancakes). At night I went to Pizza Cottage, in this establishment they have a bar. The environments in comparison are completely different. At IHOP the restaurant they were particularly busy in the mornings and has many rules and seemed to be strict. On the other hand at Pizza Cottage is busy during the evening hours and has a relaxed setting. The first difference you notice when comparing the two is the set up and music. The music being played at Pizza Cottage includes 80’s hair bands, versus the neutral variety of music being played at IHOP. Each of these restaurants attract different types of customers.…
