Morally, corruption is a deviation from an ideal. It may include activities such as bribery and embezzlement. In Malaysia, it can normally be seen when dealing with businesses or involving politics. Political corruption occurs when a governmental office-holder acts in an official capacity for personal gain. Statistics by Transparency International as shown in Wall Street Journal said Malaysia scored worst in 2012 Bribe Payers Survey. In other words, Malaysia ranked 1st in corruption worldwide.

It simply means appointing friends or relatives to position of authority without proper regards to their qualifications. Meanwhile, as mentioned in the online news, Malaysia-today.net, the bad habit of bribery has become part of Malaysian culture. While Malaysian Chinese consider it as a main ingredient to get business going, Malaysian Malays consider it as “rezeki”
Corruption has to be dealt with soon but how? Many steps have been taken by the government and yet Malaysia’s scores in Transparency International has deteriorated for three consecutive years. – “Wall Street Journal” With that said, Malaysia is either having insufficient law to deal with this cancer or the laws are not truly enforced.
At the moment, Malaysia has an anti-corruption body called the “Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission” also known with its abbreviation, MACC. According to an article in Free Malaysia Today, MACC is prone to public distrust since it has to report to the Prime Minister which is also the head of the current ruling government. Hence, MACC may not be able to carry out its true responsibilities. In this case, changes must be done for the betterment of society. MACC should be reorganize and they report to the people.
