I. I developed three tactics to cultivate a positive image, which will make it difficult for others to criticize your individualism. a. Being different isn’t easy because you will face criticism from “the crowd”. b. I have a support system, but sometimes I wanted to be like other kids. c. I developed these tactics to ease my transition into adulthood. II. Follow all of the rules most of the time. d. Know all the rules before you break them. e. Only break rules when you can avoid the reinforcement of negative assumptions about subcultures. f. In order to gain respect, you must be respectable. g. Choose your battles wisely; it will avoid any unnecessary arguments or negativity. III. Be confident. h. The line between confidence and arrogance is thin. i. Carry yourself as if you are certain that your weirdness is acceptable. j. Love the person you are. IV. Be a good person. k. Being different isn’t about being bad. l. Be kind to others, even if they are judgmental or rude, m. Find ways to give back to the community, n. Be the reason that Joe Normal realizes his opinions are actually misconceptions. o. Being different is already difficult, but it is very hard to hate a good person. V. Being different is a long, hard journey, but it is one I would walk time and again. p. Being different is nothing more than that: being different. q. You can choose to do whatever you like with your differences. r. You can use your differences to be a confident person who is mindful of the rules and unquestionably good. s. Go out of your way - not just to be different, but to be extraordinary as well.
