How To Institutionalize A Child With Special Needs
If I had a child with special needs, I would probably institutionalize them. I don't think I would be able to provide the amount and quality of 24/7 care that doctors and nurses at an institution would. Institutionalizing your child is no the same as abandoning them. You still pay for the things they need, and it’s not like never seeing them again. You will see them less, of course, but it’s important that they're getting everything that they need to survive as a disabled child. Another thing to consider is HOW you're paying for healthcare. It could be difficult to raise your child with special needs at home. Your child could possibly need around the clock watching over, and it would be hard to maintain a job, and more expensive to always

As a RN who works in the community I knew I was going to face challenges in finding resources. As the parent, it was the hardest part getting resources. Because my son is Autistic, many of the Psychiatrics did not want to treat because they were not specialized in Autisms. The other hurdle was because he was on Medicaid, we were limited to one program that were told we had to apply for a spot. The resources just are not there. We still struggle for resources and all his help is now private pay. This bothers me because Michael is not the only person with special needs, and not the only one who will attempt suicide. Not every parent or family member can pay out of pocket. Mental health for this country needs an overhaul, Mental health for this community needs so much…

I am currently a medical paraprofessional in a preschool class of three and four year olds, both typical and special needs. I see firsthand how children differ to only special needs vs. Typical but typical vs. typical and special needs vs. special needs. No matter who the child they all differ. Not only physical, but intellectually, cognitively, language, problem solving and reasoning.…

The ‘Social Model’ states that all children have individual needs but also has strengths, skills and preferences. It provides inclusive environments as a starting point for all children. It looks at the environment as a whole and attitudes towards disability and considers that it might be the ‘problem’ that needs fixing rather than the child. By using this approach, the children who would have been educated separately in a different school would now be educated in mainstream schools. The ‘Medical Model’ sees disability as a burden. They are more concerned whether the child can adapt the environment instead of seeing…

Specifically, when addressing intellectual disabilities, a plethora of training options are available, language training, socialization training, self-care skills training and academic skills training would all be potential tools to deal with singular and comorbid disorders. (Pg. 411- 412) Moreover, I would understand that I was part of a problem solving, collaborative team. A team comprised of my child, myself/spouse, physicians, mental health practitioners and educators. I would understand that a good working consensus would be paramount to the success and potential of my child's outcome. That educating family, friends and neighbors to marginalize or eliminate stigma, fears and ignorance would be of the utmost importance. Lastly, I would never cease to see my child's potential and to treat them as a whole complex living being rather than a series of clinical…

Children may not meet milestones due to time missed from education for hospital visits, since physical needs may outweigh educational or social development. There are many different types of interventions in place now to support education for children with disabilities such as play and education staff working within childrens wards and there are now many physical aids to support inclusion within schools such as adapted chairs and other equipment. Dependant upon the actual individual and their type of disability will depend on how it impacts upon their physical development but with current trends shifting towards care in the community, children are much more likely to get holistic help and inclusion within local schools.…

Though it is an unheard and unreported subject, I have recently been investigating it. I think it’s agreeable to say that this subject is going to require some very outgoing and motivated advocates. In “Restraining Special Needs Students – A Practice…

Providing an environment of hope and caring is essential and needed by all children “Lo, children are an heritage of the Lord: and the fruit of the womb is his reward” Psalms 127:3 (New King James Version). Our children our blessings from God, and He commands us to provide our children with love, spirituality, caring, and to nurture regardless of their abilities. Children with special needs require proactive parents, parents who continually strive to provide opportunities for their children. As professionals we must reach all parents and caregivers and provide them opportunities for education for not just their children, for the parents and caregivers as well. During this process it is imperative to have open lines of communication of teachers and professionals “The bond between parents and professionals (e.g., teachers, speech therapists, physical therapists) can be critical to the child’s development” (Hallahan, Kauffman, & Pullen, 2015, p. 75). Education, communication, and collaboration is essential, and through this collaboration our children and our children’s children can live successful productive…

There are certainly lots of challenges and struggles when taking care of children with special needs but there is something extremely rewarding as well. I am always reminded of the passage of scripture that says: "Religion that is pure and undefiled before God, the Father, is this: to visit orphans and widows in their affliction... (James 1:27, ESV)". We are here to work and serve our Great God and Savior, Jesus Christ and one way we have done that is by taking care of children with special needs. It has been a privilege and a joy, even in the midst of trials and heartache.…

It helps to find common ground with parents and reduce many misunderstandings. I also respect your desire to have a special needs child care facility. Wish you to successful implementation of your plans for the future.…

Your discussion is very informative. I agree with you that people with disability need evidence based educational programs in order to empower the patients on ways to self manage their health condition. One approach to do so is by advising the patients on the available financial support systems. In the past, people with disabilities had limited options of medical coverage. The Affordable Care Act (ACA) is one of the important piece of legislation in supporting people with special needs. ACA has established provisions that have expanded health insurance coverage for people with special needs. As of September 2010, insurers should not deny coverage to people with special needs. The policy ensures that people with special needs get quality…
