The true contents of happiness are stated in the article “A Formula for Happiness” by Arthur C. Brooks, the president of the American Enterprise Institute. Brooks states that people realize life and view happiness depending on genes, one-time events and basic values: faith, family, community and work. He pays special attention to the last one. According to Brooks, meaningful work and success considered as passion can make people happier. Brooks cites as an example Franklin D. Roosevelt’s words: “Happiness lies not in the mere possession of money;…
In the short essay of “What Happiness Is” by Eduardo Porter, he gives explicit details pertaining to the complex word, happiness. In its own term, happiness is defined as, the state of being happy. According to Porter’s findings on happiness, he says that psychologists and economists believe this: “Most psychologists and economists who study happiness agree that what they prefer to call “subjective well-beings” comprises three parts: satisfaction meant to capture how people judge their lives measured up against their aspirations; positive feelings like joy; and the absence of negative feelings like anger” (457). Porter suggests that this does exist and that because it does it helps individuals through certain times, like: hardships, economy, family, country, sickness, and even death. He is saying that because happiness exists, individuals are able to overcome obstacles in their life, and are able to live longer and healthier. Porter does focus on the main issues and key abstract views of the word happiness. He covers important issues, by giving detail; he talks about the views of psychologists and economists’ views. “ In 1980s a new discipline called Prospect Theory—also known as behavioral economics—deployed the tools of psychology to analyze economic behavior” (458).…
One of the main arguments in this book is that money only equals happiness up to a certain financial point, in other words, even when growth makes us wealthier, it doesn’t make us happier. Actually, the level of ‘happiness’, as measured by a major survey taker, peaked in the United States in the mid-1950s, and has been on a steady decline ever since, even while the amount of material possessions, hours worked, house square footage, and cars driven has…

Bucket lists and their supposition of compiling extravagant wants into a chromatic plastic cylinder, dreaming about what could be one day, is a subjectively asinine notion. Rather than laboring towards one categorical fantasy, any reverie is stored in hopes of being fulfilled some day. Though apparently a comprehensible concept, what is it truly teaching? Instead of working towards your goals with a steadfast focus, it is adequate to just propel them aside and have unrealistic expectations of them to simply transpire as they are wished upon. Back in reality, however, those soldiering on in hopes of achieving their goals work eminently rather than wishing on that shooting star. Oftentimes, the disturbing reality is that many children have grown up in a society where they expect everything to be served on a golden platter.…

Economists are not convinced measured happiness levels actually tell anything about how to rate a single individual’s satisfaction. Happiness levels vary due to differing factors including income, relationship status, age, residence and employment status. No two individuals are composed of the same factors and thus, comparing happiness levels across a population would not produce appropriate results. Patterns of happiness may be consistent across individuals with similar backgrounds; however, everyone defines happiness differently and places value on varying factors such as life experiences, friendship and social status. In addition, another factor influencing happiness levels is whether or not an individual has the tools to pursue and fulfill an objective or achievement. In order for happiness levels to accurately be compared between individuals, there would need to be common ground. Common background and opportunities would have to be consistent between all people.…

For centuries, mankind seeks to answer the question: Can money buy happiness? Therefore psychologists are exploring the relationship between wealth and happiness for decades. They came to the conclusion that money can make people happy if it involves moving from a state of extreme poverty into the middle class, but they do not have a noticeable impact in the future. It means that people feel glad and safe when they have enough of money to satisfy daily needs. It is important to understand, what really makes people happy besides the living routine. Jarod Kintz quotes “I think the key indicator for wealth is not good grades, work ethic, or IQ. I believe it is relationships. Sometimes, it is even possible for happiness to spread.…
