One major scene that was changed from the book to the movie was the scene where the kids go to look in the Radley house. There were a few changes related to this scene. This didn’t get the watchers of the movie the same feel for the black community as the book did. In the book when we read about the church we read about how Reverend Sykes wanted everyone to give more money to the offerings that was going to Tom Robinson’s wife to help her out with children. This showed us how much they care about one another and how much they want to help each other. This also left out quite a bit of characters. We didn’t learn as much about Tom’s wife, Helena. We didn’t learn about how she couldn’t get a job to support her children. We also didn’t meet Zeebo very much. This left out a few important things and few things that were nice in the book that the movie just lacked. One huge thing that was missed from there being no fire is no blanket was every put on Scout by Boo. During the fire Scout got cold and when she was back home she realized that there was a blanket on her and Atticus had said that Boo put it on her and she had missed it. This gave us the idea that Boo cares for Scout. Another thing that movie lacked from not having this scene was we got a feel for the characters more. We learned that Miss Maudie really did not like her house and didn’t care that it burnt down. Mr. Avery was as well left out of the entire movie but during this scene in the book Mr. Avery was in action. He had to crawl out the window and he got stuck and this scared Scout. Also a theme in the book was strange things happening, such as snow in Alabama or a dog getting rabies in February. The fact a fire happened right after a snow storm is another unusual thing that happened in the book. Not having this scene in the movie left out one of the strange things that happen and didn’t really give the viewers as much feel for that
