2. The reporter, Michael, has a pre-conceived idea that the hangman shouldn’t be such a small, frail-looking man. He is almost unbelieving that such a meek, polite person could hang criminals for a living.…
American humorist, radio and TV personality, Jean Shepherd is probably best known for his feature film; The Christmas Story. In Shepherd’s “The Endless Streetcar Ride into the Night and the Tinfoil Noose,” he uses hyperbole and contrast to build a memorable experience with the reader, one that many of us have experienced; a blind date. Shepherd’s essay highlights the false promises of the media and its influence over our lives. He portrays himself as a sophisticated, mature young man at the age of fourteen with a refined taste for things in life, the copied image of an “official” that the media thrusts upon us. When this image is shattered, young Shepherd starts to realize that success can differ from reality. Being the “official” that he believes himself to be, when Shepherd’s best friend Schwartz approaches him about a blind double date, with the insinuation of some “hanky-panky”, and believing he is helping some “no doubt skinny, pimply girl,” Shepherd agrees to the situation out of “human charity.”…
For this event paper, I decided to see a movie on the bottom floor of the J Standish Library at Siena College. I saw The Truman Show starring Jim Carrey who played Truman Burbank. The Truman Show is about a television show that has recorded the life of Truman ever since he was born. The television show is a worldwide phenomenon, the only catch is Truman does not know his whole life has been recorded. Every person in his life is an actor, and the producer of the show determines the fate of his life, from his marriage to Meryl to the faked death of his “father”. The life of Truman Burbank connects to the theme Voice and the story Plato, Allegory of the Cave because, in the end after discovering the truth of his life, Truman leaves the set and starts a new life in the real world on his own.…
In the book of Shattering Glass, by Gail Giles. Rob has shown some traits of dictatorship. Rob was describing how he would take down Lance, by putting Simon up there. “Someone new for class goat” (Giles, 68). Teensagers have a tendecy of taking things over. Often they use this new found power to put others down. This trait that rob has is very relatable. Without this trait he would of been able to shape Simon the way he should of benne. In Shattering Glass, Rob has shown traits of dictatorship.…

If you are waiting for approval to live your life, I am sorry none is forthcoming. In the book “Shattering Glass” the Author Gail Giles uses the characters to show how far some will go to get approval from others. The main characters of the story were all united under Rob a new student with a mysterious past although his charisma to spare quickly attracts many to his side. It's through the use of Rob that the author shows what people would do which they normally wouldn’t in order to gain approval. The three main reasons for why the characters sought Rob’s approval was to feel a part of something bigger, to help someone in need, and to be able to do things they normally wouldn’t.…

The magazine claims that the fabricated interview was purchased from a ‘trusted’ source who did not work exclusively for them. The novel also demonstrates the false hope instilled into people’s lives: “How easy it was to lie to strangers, to create with strangers the versions of our lives we imagined.” It demonstrates that anyone can say anything, and one wouldn't know how much truth their statement holds. The book demonstrates…
For my report, I am reviewing the historic accuracy of Hacksaw Ridge and comparing it to the actual life of military solider Desmond Doss. The movie Hacksaw Ridge, directed by Mel Gibson, gives a very accurate representation of the life of Desmond Doss. This movie shows very true events that happened in Doss’s life that are only slightly exaggerated by the Hollywood film company Summit Entertainment. Some true events that happened during Doss’s life in WWII were not included in the movie because of them being so absurd that the audience might not believe it was real. All together this movie shows accurate history from Desmond’s earlier life and war life.…
Take a moment, imagine your life without learning opportunities, knowing no matter how hard you try, your life will still end up being a shoe-shiner, or maybe worse. Once you finished, take a look at history, see what the life of the black was like and relate to them. Many have died, sacrifice their life for the banishment of racism, and so did the people who agrees with it; the oppression they were under was unbelievable, it drove thousands crazy and finally, somewhere, somehow, someone will stand up and fight for justice, even if it costs his life. In the short story “A Chip of Ruby Glass”, Nadine Gordimer created a courageous character, Mrs. Bamjee, Girlie ; to send us a message saying that fighting for the weaker is everyone’s responsibility, we must not quit fighting even though we failed at times.…
