MGMT 591: Leadership and Organizational Behavior
Project

Introduction
The organization that will be the topic of discussion for my final project paper is the Limited Brands; review evaluating reward systems and their impact on performance. Limited Brands owns Victoria Secret, Bath and Body Works and Henri Bendel, there are a total of six distribution centers in the Columbus, Ohio area. The product comes in and is sorted tagged and shipped all over the country and just recently into Canada working its way to the international community. Limited Brands has been around since 1962 and has always found a way to make it through tough time and still have the capability of growing. Like many companies in early 2000 and then again when the housing market took a crash around 2006 they knew something had to change. Early 2006 when I was hired on as a Controls Engineer and about two months in, Limited Brands let 400 employees go. They needed to cut the “fat” so they started at the top and worked their way down. Once this was done the company needed to look at itself and say where would we want to be in 10 years? To accomplish their goals they looked at the facilities department and asked us what we could do to save money and get more production out of its associates. So we came up with a few plans one was energy management, we told them that we could go into the PLC and add timers to the conveyor systems. Well they liked the idea just not the time frame it was going to take many hours programming and verifying that everything worked they came back and wanted it done faster but faster is not better so what that meant for us was we had to cut corners and not making it as efficient as we could have. This brings us to the point of this proposal, “evaluating reward systems and their impact on performance.”

The organization I have selected for the course project for a comprehensive benefit plan is Cabela’s Inc. which is the World’s Foremost Outfitter which is headquartered in Sydney, Nebraska. As of the present time Cabela’s has approximately 50 stores that are open or will be open by the end of the month. The company is a growing franchise that is opening up several more over the next few years. According to the 2012 Annual Report, Cabela’s had 15,200 employees which only 6,900 were on full-time status. Each location will have a certain number of employees depending on the market and size of store where most locations built in 2012 and after will be outposts and not retail stores which are larger and have more employees to be staffed. The competition of Cabela’s in which they compete against are in large and highly competitive markets…

Team Report and Team PowerPoint Presentation (D2L dropbox) at 800 a.m. on the day of your Recitation. (A) Team Project Description Scenario You recently inherited your grandfathers coffee shop, which is conveniently located in downtown East Lansing. The cafe offers many different kinds of coffee and tea, a full service bakery, and sandwiches, soups, and salads. Your grandfather first opened the coffee shop in 1952 and it was a local hotspot for many years. Although your grandfathers coffee shop was a local hotspot for many years, business has been steadily declining over the last five years. Although your grandfather was an expert at running the coffee shop, it is outdated. There are no computers in the store and all ordering takes place manually. Your grandfather had a terrific memory and knew all of his customers by name, but unfortunately, none of this information is located anywhere in the store. The family recipes for the baked goods and soups are also stored in your grandfathers memory. Inventory is tracked in a note pad, along with employee payroll, and marketing coupons. The Cafe does not have a Web site, uses very little marketing except word-of-mouth, and essentially still operates the same as it did in 1952. You will own and operate your grandfathers coffee shop, taking advantage of business practices discussed in our ITM 309 class to increase profits, keep the business running, and bring the cafe into the 21st century. One of your first decisions is to define a new business strategy for your grandfathers coffee shop and introduce IT to enable the strategy and enhance operations. Example IT improvements may include automating inventory updating and payroll, keeping track of customer information, creating a coffee shop website for promotion and offers, recording the recipes in a database, and offering Wi-Fi. Task The goal of…

Business Background: Elegant Lighting is a growing, 10-year old company in a large metropolitan area. They have three retail stores and a regional warehouse that receives all inventory and distributes that inventory to its three stores. The regional warehouse also serves as headquarters for the company and houses the corporate staff of the company. The officers include the President, CFO, CIO, and VP of Products and Marketing. Other personnel at headquarters include two bookkeepers, two internal auditors, and the IT development and support group. In each of the retail stores, there are sales associates and a store manager, who report up through the VP of Products and Marketing. The store managers are concerned that changes to their systems will affect sales and morale among the sales associates. If sales go down, associate commissions go down. Their primary products are lamps, lampshades, light bulbs, and commercial lighting fixtures. They serve residential customers, interior designers, and businesses. Sales range from a light bulb for a residential customer to hundreds of light fixtures for electrical contractors installing lighting for large construction projects. The leadership team wants to get a better understanding of their supply chain, the inventory they carry (too much or too little?) and how to improve ordering…

To improve the management of human resources in our company we need to complete performance appraisals and add new pay and benefits. We need to evaluate the performance levels of our employees on a monthly basis. Doing these evaluations will give the high performing employees the encouragement they need to stay on the right track and give the low performing ones a chance to see what they are doing wrong so that they can make corrections. These evaluations will also give us a chance to get to know the employees better. The second idea I have for improvement is to add a profit sharing plan to our benefits package. I believe that having a profit sharing plan will increase productivity and the quality of our products, since the amount of the bonuses the employees will receive is dependent upon how well the company is doing. The employees will have a reason to work hard to make the company more profitable. We will be able to work better as a team since everyone will have the same goal in mind, to make more money.…

Research shows that they have stores in 9 other different countries and 27 million people outside of the UK own their own club card to receive offers and discounts from Tesco’s. They sell a range of different products to suit customer’s needs. The products range from food and groceries, their own clothing brand F&F, their own mobile phone network, and also have personal banking. Tesco’s are all about making their customers happy by offering them services which can be very useful, including bank loans. My name is Lucinda Wilson; I am a 26 year old single mother raising three beautiful children. Their names are Kaleel Wilson (8), Samiya Wilson (6), and Xavier Wilson (5); they are the loves of my life. If I had to identify someone who made a significant influence in my life, it would be my mother, Ms. Vernell Scott Wilson. My mother has had twelve children and I am the eighth child. When I was young I watched my mother struggle to take care of all her kids. If that left her without, and she made sure that her children were secured. On September 22, 1989, we had a terrible tragedy happen to our family. On that day in which was twenty-three years ago we lost our father in one of the most horrible storms to hit Lee County; Hurricane Hugo. My father went to our mobile home to get my brothers, after that was done he went back for a reason we never knew. He was electrocuted and he passed on that night. At the time my mom was in the hospital about to give birth to one of my youngest sisters. During that time I was only three years old, so I didn’t understand it then, but even now to this day all I know is that my father is gone. My mother has been a strong woman because she had to deal with that, and not only that, she had eleven kids left to raise alone. My mother never gave up on us, no matter how bad, destructive, and hard headed we were. My mother has a major influence in my life in so many ways. From things she went through in life, I’ve learned to never give up, trust in God, and be good at whatever it is that you put your mind to do. She taught me to don’t settle for the less, but always do your best. From her being a mother that has raised twelve kids alone she showed me that I can do it with three. There were so many times when I told my mom that I wanted to give up. She would look at me and say, “I didn’t give up on you”, that was enough for me to keep pushing and saying I can do this. There is this one scripture in the bible that sticks with me…
