Title: M.O.B.A.
Specific purpose: to teach people how to play the game genre
Thesis: To tell the audience how to play a M.O.B.A. so they won’t be at a loss when they start playing.
Ideal location: Computer Lab
I. Intro:
A. Imagine two teams fighting for supremacy on a world far away from here, magic bolts and arrows are flying everywhere as they each attempt to crush each other with mass force and supreme strategy until they are utterly defeated…or until one team lags out.
B. Sometimes we need to escape reality and I find that playing a game on the computer as a good way to get my imagination rolling out and pull me back on to my feet when I win.
C. Credibility: I started this genre about a year ago and it was confusing to me and I figure if I tell people how to get going and the basic goal they will have an easier time than I did.
D. I shall simply teach you how to get started and how to play.
Transition: Ok let’s get started we will begin with the basic selection of a hero.
II. Body:
A. How to get started:
A.1. Select a composition of heroes that complement each other.
A.1.a) Having 1 support/healer, 1 tank, 1 mage, 1 fighter, and 1 assassin.
A.2. Then you pick one of the three lanes (top, bottom, and middle) and one partner that you can assist.
A.2.a) A good comp would be 1 support/healer + 1 fighter (or assassin) in top, 1 tank + 1 mage in bottom, and the assassin (or fighter) in the middle.
A.2.b) Then you farm the enemy’s minions and occasionally a hero if you can manage it but don’t get killed yourself. And you can follow up by denying the enemy’s farm by killing your own minions right before they get killed by the enemy.
Transition: now we will go into the details of how you would play the game.
B. How to play:
B.1. After leveling a bit you pick a focus lane (top bottom or middle)
B.1.a) Send all the heroes on your team down that lane and attempt to take down a tower at a time.
B.1.b) If the enemy catches on just back out and either go back to farming in your lanes or try a different lane.
B.2. When you get rid of all the towers in a lane you assault the Oracle/Base
B.2.a) Make sure if you lose one of your partners you back out till you can all go in again.
B.3. Then you GG (good game)
B.3.a) Upon winning or losing you show good sportsmanship. Don’t yell at a teammate if you feel they are the reason you lost pick them up by saying “you’ll do better next time” or “you can only get better” and maybe even “you learn more upon losing than you would if you won”
Transition: and so in conclusion I would like to say.
III. Conclusion:
A. Today I have basically demonstrated how to play a M.O.B.A.
B. I have shown you the basic steps of how to get started and how to play
C. As you cans see there is quite a bit of strategy involved in this game so if you’re not the type who likes to take the time to realize that two fighters in one lane is not a good idea then don’t play this game, but if you like intense strategy involving picking your heroes and items to compliment your team then you’ve found the right game.
