Halloween is behind us, but the next big festive event is already around the corner. Thanksgiving is still a few weeks away, but the weeks can fly by quicker than you realise. If you don’t want to find yourself stressing about Thanksgiving two nights before the big day, take note of these smart preparation tips.

Plan your day

You should start your preparations today by creating a plan for your day. The first thing to decide is what you are going to do and with whom. Are you heading out to someone else’s home or preparing a dinner party at yours? If you are going away, discuss with the host whether you’ll bring any food or other such items to the party, to ensure you can prepare for it.

A frozen turkey tends to need a day to thaw for each four pounds it weighs. Be careful in calculating the cooking time as well. Prepare items that can be chilled, such as cranberry sauce, on Tuesday and keep them refrigerated. On the previous day, chop and trim any vegetables you are serving and cook your dessert ready. Ask for help

Finally, don’t be afraid to ask for help. In fact, you don’t even have to be in charge of the whole Thanksgiving meal – organise a potluck dinner and have each guest prepare a little something for the dinner.
