As a teacher of young children I am aware of the need to involve parents in child’s educational and developmental process. Each parent is an expert and a valuable partner when it comes to identifying and meeting their child’s needs. As I reflect on my teaching practices, I make sure tha I provide a variety of opportunities for parents as well as family members to participate in activities and experiences planned for their child. To help children develop their communication and language I will encourage them to. Communicate with each other through activities and showing their feelings. I set up a dramatic play activity for children to interact with others while having fun. During closing circle time I talk to them asking open-ended questions and wait for them to answer. I also like to use songs for language development. For students whose home language is other than English I use different techniques, other songs that will be easier for them and at the same time they will be learning the new language. I also help children with delayed speech, I talk to them a lot and encourage them to participate and communicate with other children so they can improve their talking and language skills.…
Competency Goal Four: To establish positive and productive relationships with families. As an early childhood educator, I have to maintain a positive and productive relationship with the families that come into my preschool. Parents entrust me with their children all day and, I make the parents and families feel as much a part of our classroom and a part of their child’s development. To create this relationship, I work to build an open, friendly and cooperative relationship with each of the children’s family. I make sure to let my families know about my open door policy where they can come into the classroom and stay for a short period of time. The debate between education versus scheduled vacations has been in agendas of school committee meetings for many years, so is summer vacation a thing of the past? Having year round school with re-occurring breaks has many benefits for the students, teachers and parents. Mini breaks throughout the semester instead of a two month summer vacation could have many benefits such as a reduction of stress, improvement of learning and would help students stay in routine. School readiness, according to maturationists, is a state at which all healthy young children arrive when they can perform tasks such as reciting the alphabet and counting; these tasks are required for learning more complex tasks such as reading and arithmetic. When you are a teacher, whether it be for young kids, elementary, middle and high school students, there will be many challenges that come along with it, so that’s another thing that would be good for a teacher to be prepared to face. Some of the things a person will need to become an early childhood teacher are: an associate in arts teaching degree and the number of semester hours required (depending on what college you attend) to earn your degree. Having patience, stamina and a personality to work in a room full of energetic children every day is also a great quality for a teacher to have.
