How to Stay Young

HOW TO STAY YOUNG ... ...

1. Throw out non-essential numbers.
This includes age, weight, and height.
Let the doctors worry about them. That is why you pay them.

2. Keep only cheerful friends.
The grouches pull you down.
(Keep this in mind if you are one of those grouches!)

[pic]

3. Keep learning:
Learn more about the computer, crafts, gardening, whatever.
Never let the brain get idle. "An idle mind is the devil's workshop."
And the devil's name is Alzheimer's!

4. Enjoy the simple things
[pic]

5. Laugh often, long and loud. Laugh until you gasp for breath.
And if you have a friend who makes you laugh, spend lots and lots of time with her/him !
[pic]

6. The tears happen:
Endure, grieve, and move on.
The only person who is with us our entire life, is our self.
LIVE while you are alive.

7. Surround yourself with what you love:
Whether it's family, pets, keepsakes, music, plants, hobbies, whatever.
Your home is your refuge.
[pic]

8 Cherish your health:
If it is good, preserve it.
If it is unstable, improve it.
If it is beyond what you can improve, get help.

9. Don't take guilt trips.
Take a trip to the mall, even to a foreign country, but NOT to where the guilt is.
[pic]

10. Tell the people you love, that you love them - at every opportunity.
[pic]

And if you don't send this to at least four people - who cares?

But do share this with someone.

Many people in our society view older adults as senile and weak. Some even treat them like children, and insist on making decisions for them as if their decision making abilities are totally lost. We tend to put a “caution” label on our elderly. In reality, senility only affects five percent of the population. According to Aesoph, some age related declines in mental functioning can be either prevented or reversed. Something as simple as taking multi-vitamins could possibly prevent symptoms of senility.…

If caring for patients with chronic health issues has always been a challenge for nursing, it would be much more challenging when one deals with patients who are diagnosed with cancer. As an oncology nurse, most of my patients are older adults who are not only burdened by old age, but also weighed down by the feelings of human fragility, e.g., hopelessness, loneliness, and fear of the impending death brought about by the diagnosis of cancer. Through the many years I cared for cancer patients, I have learned to accept each patient at face value – I have become more forgiving of the emotional flare-ups that other nurses would label as “negatives” in patients. Thus, when a patient presents with the positive life…
