He also emphasizes that it is what makes Native lacrosse players are different from other, say the white people. Since lacrosse is invented by the Native people, it becomes clear how these Native people treat lacrosse differently compared to other lacrosse players. It is not only about playing a certain sport but also about keeping the faith. At least such perception is exemplified in Jeremy’s case. The Thompson family is so into lacrosse. Not only Jeremy and Hiana, both Lyle and Miles also take lacrosse seriously. A full support from their father, in a way, makes thing different. From the documentary, it is noted that the father provides thing which is priceless; it is time. Jerome Thompson Sr. considers that money and other material things are nothing compared to time spent with his…
How many professional lacrosse games have you been to? 2,1, or 0 now compare that to the number of NFL or NBA games you have attended. Almost all Americans would agree that basketball and football is more popular than lacrosse. Also they would agree that lacrosse players earn less than the traditional sports players. Those types of people are correct, lacrosse players earn significant different wages than NFL or NBA athletes, but what exactly are the these differences.…
There are four boys who each have something to say. The first is Dyjae, 15, Jordany,14, and Tyler,15. All of these teenagers are African Americans who have struggled in life and they all have a similar story. What connects them all is the fact that they each lost a parent or both parents and is trying to provide for themselves. An example of this is one lost both mom and dad, one at the age of 12 and the other recently. They all have one thing that they all comeback to which is Lacrosse. Lacrosse is their getaway. When they play nothing else matters and they forget about everything. Its their comfort zone. The thing that feels right. Another aspect that’s presented in this commercial is the drive that each of them have to be successful, the inspiration and the heart. It shows they play for two things: their parents that they’ve lost and themselves. The teenagers want to get better every day. Practicing in the rain. Whatever satisfies them. Dicks Sporting goods is giving them their spotlight and a voice to tell their story to the world. Showing everyone doesn’t always have to be labeled as bad. People can change and be successful. Referring back to the commercial when one of the boys said, “I used to be disrespectful and often mean, but that changed when I started playing…
Within the pages of this informational text, the authors Calder and Fletcher discus in great detail the importance lacrosse has had on indigenous culture throughout the ages. The book is broken up into a few sections that each describes the creation and evolution of lacrosse. The first section, “The Oral Tradition” will help with the first mentions of lacrosse in indigenous history. It goes on to explain how lacrosse and creation stories are intertwined both effecting one another. They also examined how different tribes tell their stories in different ways, for example the Haudenosaunne and their “Four Warrior Game”. This section helps indicate that lacrosse is the creator’s game, and that lessons and teachings are supposed to be learned when the game is played. Moving on the book also sheds light on a more present history, which will aid in understanding the development of lacrosse. This part recognizes, that lacrosse has evolved overtime and that, the game is played not just by indigenous peoples. This section also includes why the game is called, “lacrosse” and the history behind the naming. Also included is the adoption of lacrosse as Canada’s national game, which helps explain how the game has gained international success. This book in its conclusion also includes the development of the lacrosse stick and its differences within the tribes of North America. Furthermore, it illustrates that lacrosse did not develop from a single source but a collection of ideas.…

REV's goal is to help everyone achieve there goal of playing college lacrosse. I can help the girls accomplish there goal of playing in college by giving them advise to improve there ability on the field to make them ready for the next level. 4) If, as a REV Senior Coach, you are at a tournament and overhear parents speaking negatively about REV or a REVer, what would you do? I would ask the parents to stop talking negatively about REV or a REVer, and if they did not then I would ask them to leave the game.…
Imagine a sport so extreme and intense that your children’s children are going to have flashbacks of when you attempted it. I now introduce the “X-Treme Paragliding Terror Longbow” (XPTL). A sport only for those who have the testicular fortitude to compete in. The sport is divided into three different portions. Paragliding, snowboarding, and Longbow that are all judged on three separate areas. The first one would be skill, the second is style, and the third and final is on points. I am here to define the sport’s three sections and sum it up into the sport as its own.…
The problem to be investigated is the Duke Lacrosse scandal, which decimated a top collegiate athletic program and cast a negative shadow over one of the top academic universities. Duke University had one of the top men’s lacrosse programs in the county, which had won numerous national championships. Unfortunately, the decisions and actions of some of the team members threatened to destroy the reputation of the lacrosse program and the entire university. The media and society have developed a large appetite for scandal that is still evident today, whether it is due to sex, drugs, cheating or spying (Mazanov & Connor, 2010). The real life drama of the Duke lacrosse team was spread out over several months and included the lacrosse season being cancelled, three players indicted on rape charges, a crooked prosecutor, turncoat faculty members and administrators, irate neighbors and even dirty cops, all of whom had their own personal agendas (Jennings, 2009). The story was also fueled with the racist overtones, which alluded to the rich white athletes who sexually abused the poor inner-city black female stripper. This case is a reminder of the destructive power of racism fueled by political correctness and a desire to gain political influence by any means.…
Another important piece of hockey stick history is the type of material used. Originally, ice hockey sticks were made of wood. In the early 1980s, the sticks were formed of metals. By the turn of the 21st century, hockey sticks were started to be constructed out of carbon fiber which has made them lighter and stronger than ever. hockey sticks have always been a matter of personal preference for hockey players which means a lot of players will take their gear and self alter it or have it custom made. However the NHL has set forth guidelines for players to keep things at a fair level. For example a player’s stick cannot be longer than 63 inches. As well as a players curve can’t be over ½ inches from heal to toe(2).…

Today’s ball is a hard rubber that bounces on pavement and hard surfaces, but dies in grass. The ancient balls that were used by the native americans were originally the same as the sticks, being made from wood. But the ball even back then evolved and was later made with deer skin stuffed with fur. The traditional ball and stick were also the only pieces of equipment the Native Americans used. In ancient lacrosse there was no protective helmet, shoulder pads, elbow pads, or even most importantly no cup!…
Protection among our athletes is what is most important to both players, parents and coaches. Most individuals play sports to have fun, be competitive and win; one rarely ever hears an athlete say, “I’m going to play today to get hurt.” In order to protect ourselves and others, proper education on the sport at hand is necessary. In women’s lacrosse, younger athletes are not allowed to check. When girls reach the high school level the league permits legal checking. The issue at hand, is that the players are not educated prior to entering high school therefor the form and technique is never instilled properly. When an athlete does not know how to properly and safely do something, it can lead to harmful play in general. If coaches teach girls…
I was six years old when my father strapped me into my first pair of skis, “Skiing is way more fun than snowboarding. Snowboarding isn’t even a real sport,” he jokingly told me while putting on his own skis. Little did my father know I would later become a snowboarder at the age of twelve, following the example of my mother and two brothers. During my junior year at age sixteen, I joined the brand new snowboarding club at Blackfoot High School. Although the club only functioned for a year, I realized that small, northern towns like Blackfoot Idaho were full of winter sport fanatics. This thought brought a question to my mind; are there schools in the U.S. that have snowboarding as an actual high school sport? After more research on the subject, I found that only a few private boarding schools around the country offer snowboarding as an actual school sport. Public high schools usually include sports that require physical exertion, competition and a way to generate revenue like football, basketball, soccer, baseball, volleyball and much more, so I asked myself; why not snowboarding?…
