In reality, the actual amount of people who opt for plastic surgery is saved for the upper-class big wigs, a small part of the population. The main reasons this ad evokes such a strong response are the symbols used to represent and understand reality. Because society today is preoccupied with physical perfection, the advertisement is able to combine the blond model and the fries effectively. The meaning given to the fries is that they are completely and one hundred percent real, unlike its female counterpart. This brings the question to mind, what is real? According to dictionary.com real is defined as genuine; not counterfeit, artificial, imitation; authentic. So who’s to say the busty blonde’s rack isn’t real? No one. This is what the ad is relying on, the meaning people give to things in their world to better understand reality. It is also ironic the advertisement agency chose to picture a common no-no like fries with a thin top-heavy woman who has probably never eaten a fry in her life—or just got it liposuctioned out. Society gives these images power by either reacting to them publicly or on a more personal level. On the personal side, this image is suggesting that one such as you can ‘indulge wisely’ with these fries and still keep the exaggerated figure of the not-so-average bombshell. Whether it’s subconscious or not, this
