• The battle started on July 1st, 1863 to July 3rd, 1863. It started at 4 pm on July 1st but on July 2nd, Longstreet was ordered by Commander Robert E. Lee to attack. Although he was instructed to attack, he was very slow to get his men and weapons ready and finally started to attack around 4 pm and the fighting came to an end at about 10:30 pm. The next morning on July 3rd the fighting started again at 4:30 am and finally the battle of Gettysburg ended at 2:30 pm.

Lee were in search of supplies in the town of Gettysburg and to a surprise, bumped into the Union that was led by General George G. Meade. After this happened, fighting started almost immediately and ended on July 3rd.
• In the end, the Confederates were losing but had still stayed their ground and were ready for more in case the Union wanted to attack again. The Union did not and Robert E. Lee decided to pull back and escape during the night. A few days later, they made it back to Virginia letting the Union win.
• The reason the battle ended the way it did was because the Union had many more men than the Confederate and the union had better strategies than the Confederate.
• This battle was a very important battle in history. It is known as the biggest and bloodiest battle fought in North America; even now there haven’t been as many casualties as there was in that battle (more than 50,000). I do not believe that the troops were ready for battle because it happened out of nowhere. It was completely unexpected for them to bump into each other when they were both in seek of supplies.
