For the first time, he heard something that knew to be music. He heard people singing. As he rise from his bed, he notices what seem to be people. All of them were different. Jonas had never seen anything like this before; they were all dressed differently, doing different things. Jonas, still hallucinating from dehydration, stands up and looks at Gabriel, who looks as lively as he’s ever been. Jonas realized that he was inside of a hospital, an advanced medical facility. “How long have I been out for?” Jonas asks a doctor.
“You’ve were out for pretty long. We were just able to save you and your little friend.”
As he finally gets out of the hospital, that they were in for about 48 hours, Jonas looks at the city, and sees a group of people looking at the himself and Gabriel. One man, about 30, with a black sportcoat on, walks up to Jonas and Gabriel, and with a serious face, he stares at the two children. The man said nothing and walked away, although Jonas knew that he was looking at their ripped uniforms that they’ve had on for weeks- or even months. Jonas didn’t seem to remember.

The man described to Jonas and Gabriel what Christmas was, as Jonas had lost all of his memories that had been given to him by The Giver just earlier this year. He could still see color, although he could barely feel the polar cold that was surrounding him. He told them it was a time of love, of families coming together, of receiving presents. All of which Jonas had never experienced. The man invited them over to his house, as he could see that they had no shelter for the night, and that it was extremely cold outside- even though Jonas and Gabriel could not feel the cold.
