His character and everything that he does throughout the story, are not things that would belong to a dog that lives in a rich house near the beach, and relaxes all day. I believe that buck went through a lot to get to the point where he officially lived/ and was a part of the wild. He was tossed around from owner to owner, and basically adapted to the living conditions with each owner. All of his owners knew he was special, was not your average dog.
