He didn’t care about his academic history and wanted to impress a certain girl. He would show off to look cool and wanted the spotlight to be focused on him at all times. When Muff Potter was convicted of a crime he didn’t commit, Tom Sawyer couldn’t bare to see him suffer and die a untruthful death. So, Tom and Huck brought Mr. Potter some tobacco, matches, food, and water in his unguarded prison cell. Tom also stood up for what was right at Potter’s trial and told the truth about what really happened the night of the murder. This is the first sign of Tom Sawyer maturing. He also show maturity when he starts to put himself in other people’s shoes. When he and Becky are stuck in the cave, he starts to feel the apprehension that Becky is feeling. He puts his focus on her and getting her out of the cave alive. So, he scouts ahead using kite line to find a way out of the cave. There was no word bank in the test, so I was forced to study for them. I wasn’t excited for that. This was the first sign of me stretching my limits and trying a new aspect of my school life. The next challenge was doing papers. At first I thought, “Oh well, it’s just a paper, no biggie!” Little did I know it was a biggie! You got to double space, put it in Times New Roman, print two copies, font twelve, and if it was late, you got 20% docked from it. These standards were all new to me. I never had to follow so many rules for a measly paper. When our Great Depression Paper was assigned, I spent most of my time working on it in class. I didn’t think it would be a big deal. Just another measly paper. I encountered another challenge the day I turned in my paper. I didn’t type my power outline. I thought you only had to type the paper, not the outline. I freaked out. What?! Did I not listen? What am I going to do? Will everyone look at me? I didn’t know what I was going to do. I completely underestimated how challenging seventh grade was going to be. So I had to stretch my mental limits a lot. When a paper or project rolled around, I made sure I had time during the weekend to work on it. If there was time over the weekend, I would pound at least an hour into working on that project or paper. If it was during the weekday, I would make sure to dedicate 15-20 minutes to it a night!
