“Like the protected books, plays and movies that preceded them, video games communicate ideas — and even social messages — through many familiar literary devices (such as characters, dialogue, plot and music) and through features distinctive to the medium (such as the player’s interaction with the virtual world),” Justice Scalia wrote. “That suffices to confer First Amendment protection.” This age old debate has valid points on either side, but the bottom line is that we cannot have our rights infringed on because of a possibility of negative behaviors, when so many positive things can come from playing violent video games.

Violent video games allow children to act out violent actions on a type of screen with some type of remote. The violent behavior the act out can be complimented and rewarded with achievements. The reward these kids get may make them feel better about themselves and make them more prone to act out in violent ways and in violent behaviors outside of the game. Kids are mislead by these games by thinking that the violence they are…

Ignorance and materialism negatively affects humans some way or another, and society only increases these lifestyles. Whether or not we believe it, ignorance and materialism is a daily part in our lives today; thus, we cannot live without it. We try to ease our problems by blindingly accepting society’s norms and trends. Because we cannot formulate our own ideals and ways of life, we live in a false sense of justice and peace. In Tony Hoagland’s “Hard Rain,” the speaker witnesses these faults in our behavior at a shopping mall; however, he, similarly, is not able to escape that reality. The larger meaning of this poem, that we have no sense of individualism and morality, is specified by the author’s usage of diction and the disappointing, humorous, and controversial tone he uses to prove it.…

Dr Nicholas Carnagey is an Iowa State University professor of psychology and a research assistant. The paper discusses how violent video games affect a person 's behavior and if they manifest violence and show aggression in the real world after playing such video games. I learned that not all people who are exposed to video game or media violence turn violent. I think it depends on the person if he wants to get influenced from the game, to mimic what the game shows. This is just like the next source, discussing about what kind of behavioural problems violent gaming brings about.…

Peaceful resistance positively impacts a free society in three ways: keeping the Bill of Rights alive, inspiring others to promote change through passive protest, and widening people's perspectives while respecting the law.…

The video games phenomenon is somewhat new in this modern society. Although they often to be entertaining, the contents have become more violent and disturbing as computing technology has become much more advanced. These days, the popularity of violent video games has caused an increase in controversy. Parents and experts feel that some games are just too violent and they think that the violent will spill over into the real world. However, I strongly believe violent video games do not cause an increase in aggression in adolescents. In fact in many ways violent video games benefit the children that are playing them.…

Video games are basically known as a staple among American teenagers. Many teenage boys and even some girls spend hours of their day staring at the TV screen and rapidly pushing buttons on a controller. Many of the top selling games in America strongly involve violence in their gameplay. These types of games raise many questions about how they affect the people playing the games. Are there negative consequences or are these claims just made up? There is research to back up both claims but the negative effects of violent video games seem to overpower the positives of recreational violent video game play. Manufacturers should enforce their own policy towards people who play their games in a more efficient way. Video games have multiple severe problems associated with the violence that is so heavily incorporated into them. Video games can give a false sense of reality and allow gamers to become so immersed into their game play that lines between real life situations and game play situations begin to blend together. Playing video games can also become an addictive distraction. Many avid gamers can spend hours at a time glued to their TVs playing on their Xboxes, PS3s, and other gaming consoles. This time spent playing games can take away from other activities. Important things like schoolwork and grades can be affected by spending all one’s time playing games instead of focusing on more important things. It can cause people that play the games to go to sleep super late in the night. The students then have to wake up early and go to school tired and will not be able to focus and stay awake to learn the material being taught. Video games also spur a sedimentary lifestyle. Obviously, not getting enough daily exercise leads to weight gain and other health issues. Violent video games also cause behavioral and social problems. These games desensitize people towards killing and steer them in the direction that killing is…

Violence in video games has been around for many years and many kids have played them. Some people believe that these video games change the kids’ minds and make them killers while others feel that it does nothing to them. Although no outcome has been decided yet, studies have shown that the violence in videogames can change the way that kids think, some bad like killing and others good like problem solving. As technology gets more advanced and the graphics get better, the video games become more violent. However, there has also been a rise in sports and puzzle games allowing kids to problem solve and maybe get motivated to play a sport. Violent video games can be an issue to the society because of the kids that play them, but violent videogames could help us train kids to be more focused.…

In 1972, the Surgeon General issued the following warning on violent TV programs: "It is clear to me that the causal relationship between televised violence and antisocial behavior is sufficient to warrant appropriate and immediate remedial action…there comes a time when the data are sufficient to justify action: that time has come” (Steinfeld, 1972). Since the time that video games began to dominate the market, media has been investigated as one of the major sources of malevolent behaviors in society. “In the years since this Surgeon General warning was issued, hundreds of additional studies have shown a link between violent media exposure and aggression”(Anderson& Bushman, 2002).Although this warning related to television, it is a wonder if these same negative effects could be present in the use of violent video games. With all of the violence occurring in and surrounding schools in this current day, it is possible that violent video games also have a negative effect on the behaviors and interactions of those who use them. In the following, we will discover three different reasons why violent video games have a negative effect on players. Although video games are touted as being responsible to the refinement and advancement of fine motor skills and creative thinking, there are some issues when it comes to violent video games. When compared with television, there are some overlapping concerns. There are some benefits to playing video games over television, however. While video games involve active play, television uses more passive interaction between the player and the media. Information is better transmitted when a person is actively involved with the media being used. For instance, most children would prefer to learn a new skill or…
