How Was the First Rock and Roll Song
It is hard to decipher when and who started the rock and roll revolution. Most would say Elvis and others might disagree. Rock and roll to me is as the words sound, but written into lyrics of a song. Rock is an object that is hard and its shaped in many different was. Roll metaphorically speaking is ever going, like a ball rounding down the hill, which needs friction to continue rolling on. Songs with a strong vocal edge and hard-hitting musical instruments are what make rock and roll different then rhythm and blues. R&B is more of a southing even tempo style then rock and roll edgy and full figured beats. This rock and roll style of music first came into play by singer-songwriter Lightin’ Hopkins. His song “Play with your Poodle” displays all of the edginess and hardest in the lyrics and instruments play of this song. His lyrics were very free and loose a style that is used a lot in rock and roll. His vocal power and confidents as a singer pushed his blues like style, into a more rock and roll feel. He pushed the limits with his lyrics and his attitude was as roil as your can be. Hopkins caused a lot of friction with this song being so vulgar; his audience would either love him or hate him for this approach. Most of his audiences were young men and woman that enjoyed his up beat and over the top style of play. One would have to say his style was rock and roll because by nature it is hard and edgy, but he can shape it to be sharp as glass. Even the sharpest of approaches in rock and roll lyrics, will be deeply rooted in an emotion that can cut you like a

A few years after World War 2, the music genre Rock N’ Roll was created. It originated from Rhythm and Blues and Country. In the early 1950’s there was three musicians that joined the world of Rock N’ Roll. Their names were Little Richard, Chuck Berry and Elvis Presley. They each had their own style of Rock N’ Roll. But some individuals couldn’t decide who the true king of Rock N’ Roll was. In my opinion, Elvis Presley was the true king of Rock N’ Roll because, of his crazy dance moves, how he broke the social barrier between the black folk and the white folk, and today’s generation knows who Elvis Presley was.…

Although there are many more artists that had major contributions towards the growth and prosperity of Rock ‘N’ Roll, those major artists mentioned really helped shaped the genre into what it is today. For example, the most notable Elvis Presley combined different types of music in order to form a new style of rock ‘n’ roll called “rockabilly”. This intern (in turn?) became one of the key and essential sounds within rock ’n’ roll. Elvis created rockabilly by fusing the already popular rhythm and blues sounds of African Americans, the country-western sounds of the South, with the pop musical style genres that dominated the recording industries and mainstream radio8. (Altschuler 51) The combination of these respective musical genres and sounds into a new style of music and rock ‘n’ roll was one of Elvis’s main contributions to popular culture and mainstream society. This integration of these musical styles took place just preceding the civil rights movement, foreshadowing social integration, Elvis made this moment in pop culture history even more historic. His music was not the only part that captured a multitude of audiences across the United States, but also the incorporation of his gyrating hips and the shaking of his legs.9 (Altschuler, Glenn Page107) These signature moves commonly associated with Elvis are still seen in teen rock today. Additionally, Elvis would also sing close to the microphone and jump up and down with his…

Rock for me has stronger messages than the traditional Rock and Roll format; you see a lot of repetitive messages in the early 50’s and 60’s when it came to rock and roll music. Rock and Roll was basically telling stories about past experiences about sex or drugs or music that you couldn’t forget because the chorus was catchy. Rock, as stated before is a subculture of rock but for me with Dylan being an example had a lot of raw emotions infused into it. When I think about Rock and Roll I image sex, or to procreate without intention of reproducing, partying without consequences. Rock music is sort of like a political party, encouraging rebellion, power or to have strength within one’s self. Bob Dylan, is an example of all of these things, while listening to his music I got a sense of urgency and emotion. He made you feel that you belonged to a community larger than yourself; he himself encouraged diversity with the world and even with himself. He crystallized the notion of social protest as a cultural pursuit for a…

Rhythm and Blues originates from African Americans. Back in the 1940s rhythm and blues was becoming more popular, widespread, and starting to blend with country music thus creating Rock and Roll. Rock and roll is a genre of popular music that originated and evolved in the United States during the late 1940s and early 1950s, primarily from a combination of predominantly African-American genres such as blues, boogie woogie, jump blues, jazz, and gospel music, together with Western swing and country music. Though elements of rock and roll can be heard in blues records from the 1920s and in country records of the 1930s, the genre did not acquire its name until the 1950s.…

The conventional wisdom is that rock and roll "died" between 1959 and 1964 - roughly the period between Buddy Holly's plane crash in Clear Lake, Iowa and the Beatles' more upbeat arrival at JFK airport. In this scenario, The Day The Music Died is only the beginning, as Elvis enters the Army, Chuck Berry goes to jail, Jerry Lee Lewis is ruined, and Little Richard leaves the stage for the church.…
