Of course none of us Congolese were happy when Leopold took control of us, especially because he ruthlessly enslaved us and used us to exploit our own resources for his wealth. Which we absolutely could not stand for, and after around 25 hard years of this treatment all of us Congolese banded together to give him massive pressure. This eventually leaded to him handing control of the Congo to the Belgian government which wasn’t at all what we wanted! But was still a bit better than being ruled by that heartless man.

I was so happy when this finally happened because as a teacher and having the position of chief clerk, the highest position possible for a Congole to have in the Belgian colonial administration I felt that we might finally be able to regain complete control of our great country. It’s not that I hated the Belgians for taking control of us, I just believe, and rightly so, that us Congolese were people too and didn't deserve the treatment they gave us just because of our different skin color.
