AIM- Design of V-belt drive
PROBLEM-
Design a V-belt drive for the following data Driving motor power = 20 kw Driving motor speed = 1440 rpm Driven reciprocated compressor speed = 480 mm Suggest a suitable size and no. of belt required and draw a neat sketch of pulley group no. of fatigue cycle. The centre distance must not exceed 2m.
SOLUTION- Given data- Motor power PR = 20 kw N motor = 1440 rpm=N2 N compressor = 480 rpm =N3 Step1- Design power Pd = PR × kl T− XV −9 = 23 kw kl = 1.15 Step2- power rating per belt From T−XV−9 Power/Belt = (FW−FC)eμθ/sin(α/2)-1eμθ/sin(α2)×Vp From T−XV−8 Recommended belt cross section is ‘C’ For Designation ‘C’ Minimum pulley diameter D2 = 225mm Diameter of larger pulley N1N2= D2D1 D1 = N1N2×D2 = 1440480×225 D1 = 675 mm Peripheral velocity VP = π×D2N2
