How would an naked egg, a cell of a chicken, react to different environment in an extended period of time? How will it impact the egg as the cell membrane tries doing its job?
Ⅱ. INTRODUCTION
Everything is made up of at least one cell if it is living. Every cell has different parts to it. The part we will be focusing on is the cell membrane. The cell membrane functions as a barrier between the content of a cell and its environment. It is what decides what can go in and out of the cell. The cell membrane is usually composed of a double layer of fat. This layer is referred to as the lipid bilayer. Within this layer, special proteins are embedded, usually referred to as membrane proteins or membrane transport proteins. …show more content…
The egg now smelled strongly of rubbing alcohol. Once split open the egg seemed as if it were half boiled and the inside was very odd the yolk being slightly goopy in areas. The egg tested in the corn syrup solution had not grown at ll but rather felt heavier. It was more fragile than before. Once split open, the shell was obviously different. It seemed more like the shed skin of a lizard or an egg after a lizard hatches from it. The inside seemed normal until I poked at the egg yolk. I realized the membrane around the yolk was denser, thicker and stronger in a way as it was pulled at and fathered like the top of boiling milk. It was like a thin layer of skin. The inside of the yolk was also slightly clumpy, being able to have some of it picked up with a …show more content…
The corn syrup is hard to say as it grey in mass but stayed the same in circumference, 13.5 cm, so the solution may either be an isotonic solution (Proving our second hypothesis correct) or hypotonic as it grew in mass. Their may be human error which affected the results such writing information incorrectly, messing up measurements, or using different types of materials than those needed. Many people may have also put their egg in vinegar for different amounts of time than the others, also the freshness of the egg may have accounted for the process. Many solutions had outcomes that were clear but this egg, the corn syrup egg was still a little confusing. Either way, this showed how the membrane of the egg can let certain things pass as residue was left out of the beakers on both eggs, along with the majority of the other class’s eggs, changing the egg’s size, shape, color, ass, and
