There were Monuments as large as buildings. Museums full of information things from decades ago. The most interesting to me was the Washington Monument. It was taller than most buildings in Washington. The Washington Monument is one of the most famous Monuments in the world. This amazingly tall Monument has something behind it called the reflecting pool.…
This group of students had just come in from high school, which is more or less a ‘childish environment’ this circumstance by implication therefore relates to the verse quoted by Dr. Farmer, this was a pointer for the students that they have to undertake greater responsibility at this stage. All less than serious and lackadaisical attitude from high school was to be put aside, as those are childish traits. Commitment, diligence and industriousness- traits of a man, were to be of paramount importance at this point. Mindsets and mannerisms and priorities were to change in order to embrace mature characteristics vital for this stage of their lives.…
Edgar Allan Poe is considered to be the father of the short story by many. Over the course of his life, he wrote hundreds of short stories and poems. His writing style is unique and influenced by the tragedies that occurred over the course of his life. In fact, he is most well known for writing morbid stories and gruesome, dismal poems. Indeed his writing habits were heavily influenced by his life. His life was full of depression, angst, and woe. Many of the people he cared for fell victim to deadly plagues and diseases. To cope with this pain, Edgar Allan Poe sought comfort in the bottom of a bottle. In his times of depression he would drink heavily and become sick for days at a time. In between his fits of alcoholism and depression, he wrote. When he wrote, he wrote well. Edgar Allan Poe led a life full of tragedy and troubled times. Although he kept an air of dignity and pride around him, he often felt very lonely and depressed. This feeling of desperation greatly influenced his unique and often morbid writing style.…
We all want something out of life and most of us have a plan for our lives and where exactly we want to be in 5, 10, or even 20 years. However, most of the time, those 5,10, and 20 year plans do not work out as we expected. We go through triumphs and tragedies; we grow and learn; and we eventually realize that what we have planned is probably going to change because we have changed. Over the course of my life, I have changed in a variety of ways and have overcame a number of challenges. I’ve made plans for my life and most of them did not work out, but looking back, I wouldn’t change a thing.…
An event I've experienced that was life changing was when I obtained the rank of Eagle Scout from the Boy Scouts of America. It was an affirmation of years of disciplined work and study to have such a prestigious honor bestowed upon me. In scouting, I developed various moral and ethical tenants that have shaped my foundation in life. Tenants like integrity, honor, reverence, faith in God, a man's role and his responsibility to his family, and a nearly innumerable quantity of experiences growing under the leadership of the Boy Scouts of America have molded me into who I am today in my very core of being. The realization of my dream to become an Eagle Scout took 11 years to obtain, so I'm no stranger to adversity or perseverance. To my memory,…
A really big change in my life was definitely moving from Poland to America. I moved here when I was 16 years old, and it made a really big change for me, because I came to the different country, by myself, without anybody who I knew, and I started completely different life. I was by myself. At first it was hard for me, because I missed my family, and being taken care of. But then I realized that there is nobody who will take care of me, and I should never expect anyone to. I understood that my home is where I am. Also, my big passion since I was little was art. In kindergarten, elementary and middle school I took part in many theatre competition, later on I started participating painting and drawing contest. Last year I decided to focus on physics and become a scientist. I never liked math and physics before, but I just recently I found it interesting, so I make a decision to be good at it. Now, I’m putting a lot of effort on archiving that goal.…
Now days, my entire outlook has changed. The people in my life have played a large role in my transformation. Their belief in me has helped me to believe in myself. I started hearing compliments, which previously had been absent in my life. New opportunities presented themselves and I was…
4) A significant change in my life was moving away from my parents and my brother a couple months ago. I responded to this in a very mature way to give it my all and put effort on the sacrifice my family and I are making. I learned about myself that I can be responsible, organized and self motivated. I live with some close family friends and it’s not the same so that’s a really big challenge for me. Now I will appreciate the things my mom and dad tell me. I’ve learned a lot from being a…
Something difficult I have gone through that changed me. Although, in the beginning it was extremely difficult to cope, I believe this experience changed me for the better. It has shaped me into the person I am today. Being the oldest of three in a broken family has forced me to become a role model, and taught me to take on large responsibilities. I learned how to use my independence for the better of my siblings. I learned how to cope with difficult people, I learned how to put on a happy face, I learned how to leave my family life at home. I learned how to be happy with my friends and at school. I learned how to smile through the day, ultimately being content with my life. I gained the strength to look at the pros and not the cons. This unfortunate situation has caused me to become a more positive person. If I could give one piece of advice to…
For my family members, a concrete immediate change in my life would be keeping in touch with them more. Family is so important but with school, I am finding myself focused on other things. This would also be my long-term goal because as I get older I will be getting busier, this is important as they are an important aspect of my life.…
I had many events or accomplishments, or a realization that has taught me something very important about myself and maybe even…
Clearly, spending quality time with loved ones, receiving a good education, and expressing deep thoughts by poetry are all very significant in my life and have greatly affected the person that I have become today. Although the person I am now is not…
Everyone wishes they could changed an event in their life, myself being no exception. It almost has a weight upon me, after years, the one biggest regret in my life. The day my mother died. Her and I never had the best of relationships, she struggled with mental issues and drug abuse, and was never around me, which created a certain disconnection between the two of us. It almost seemed like a portion of my visits always ended in some form of argument. Even at a younger age I almost felt like the parent in some situations she and I were placed in, maybe due to her recklessness? Maybe it was the disabilites? Regardless, the day before she died we got into an all too common arguement. This had to do with breaking the lease on yet another duplex,…
I don’t know if I can explain why I did what I did, but if I could go back in time and change…
A very important event in my life would have to be the death of my grandmother.…
