Mr. A.T. Ahmedul Huq Choudhury, ppm was born on December 21, 1948 in Satgaon, Brahmanbaria. He is an MBA graduated from the Institute of Business Administration (IBA), University of Dhaka. He joined BCS(Police) in 1973 as Assistant Superintendent of Police(ASP). He served as Sub-divisional Police Officer(SDPO) and Superintendent of Police(SP) in different sub-divisions and districts. He also served as Deputy Police Commissioner (DPC) of Dhaka Metropoliton Police, Special Superintendent of Police(SSP) of Special Branch and Assistant Inspector General of Police(AIG) in the Police Headquaters. As Deputy Inspector General of Police (DIG) he served as Police Commissioner of Chittagong Metropoliton Police and Director, National Security and Intellengence (NSI). He was also in charge of Special Branch(SB) and Criminal Investigation Department (CID) as Additional Inspector General of Police. Mr. Choudhury held the post of Inspector General of Police (IGP) from 5th May 2005 till his retirement on December 20, 2005.
Mr. Choudhury attended 'Basic Training' in the Police Academy Sardah, Rajshahi; 24th ACAD in National Institute of Public Administrative (NIPA), Dhaka and 'Formulation of Development Project in Revised Proforma' in Academy for Planning and Development, Dhaka. He also attended 'General English Course' in Anglo-World Education, London, UK; Overseas Command Course in Police Staff College, Bramshill, UK and '˜Senior Administrator Course' in MIV, London, UK. He attended number of seminars and workshops in Hawaii, Portorico, New York, Budapest. He also worked with United Nations as Provincial Commander of Civilian Police (CIVPOL) in Haiti in 1994 and 1995.
For his meritorious service, Mr. Choudhury was awarded 'IGP's Good Service Badge' in 1994, 'Commanders Award for Public Service' by US Defence department in 1995 and 'President Police Medal (PPM)' in 1999.
