The central idea of this article is that adding exercise machines to classrooms will help many children focus. "'It helps me concentrate,' said Adam. As a former public school teacher and administrator, I am typically not in favor of anything that might cause a distraction to the pedagogical process. Over the past several years we have seen the rise of many gadgets that have done just that. For me, the most intrusive apparatus arriving in the classroom that continues to vex educators has been the smartphone. Teachers are forced to constantly perform the “turn that off,” “log off that,” “put that away,” dance everyday resulting in the loss of valuable learning time. Now, we have the fidget spinner.…

She supports her colleagues with integrating technology in their classrooms. Mary Hertz teaches high school in Philadelphia, where students have a school issued device to she saw that her students are getting a hard time to focus in making their homework. She always hears that her students complain that her assignments are taking too long to be finished, which she believed that distraction made a huge role in their resentment. Although some teachers implement “No-gadget policy”, this should not be countered because the fact is devices need in the school cannot be remove since it defeats the purpose of having a device and it is counter and it is considered illogical. According to Mary, Schools who implemented E-Learning should teach their students how to manage their attention since Katrina Schwartz refers to the study showing that someone who mastered the ability focus has been connected to their bright future. I think that this journal article gives the reason why e-Learning should not be implemented but the author stated that this is not hindrance, Instead, this a challenge that school should overcome by helping students in the process of integrating learning and technology. This article is helpful because it gives you the main problem of the situation. It is not about how the teachers teach, but it is more on the attitude and the habits of the students that affects their…

I read the article “10 Things Middle Schoolers Think you Should Know” by Rachel Vail. There are a few connections that I made. One connection that I made was when she wrote,”I like it when you make use get up and move, it makes it fun and easy to remember”. I relate to that because I most enjoy class activities. Also, it helps me remember the assignment. When we do school activities it helps me understand and not be confused when the test comes. For example, In my teacher’s class when made posters to help us remember the math formula, I extremely agree with her on this statement…

Sensory play and sensory devices have been around for a while now, and have been manufactured in order to help create a sensory input to calm and focus children with ADHD, ADD, or autism. Furthermore, are fidget spinners productive or are they just a distraction. Now, I tend to fidget a lot, I press my fingers against my palms, twiddle my thumbs, and sometimes, have a hard time focusing. This is only when i’ve been sitting a desk for a while, and I constantly feel the need to be doing something productive, or I feel like i’m wasting my time. The science behind fidgeting actually isn’t very complex. Said by Roland Rotz, “If something we are engaged in is not interesting enough to sustain our focus, the additional sensory-motor input that is mildly stimulating, interesting, or entertaining allows our brains to become fully engaged and allows us to sustain focus on the primary activity in which we are participating.” For example, If you are fully engaged in watching a baseball game in the bottom of the 9th, I’ll bet you're not fidgeting a lot because you're focused…

To advance physical and intellectual competence I provide various amounts of equipment and activities that help promote the physical development of children. I do this by offering activities that will allow children to use their small muscles and large muscles. Children need these types of activities so they can become familiar about how to use their muscles and to develop body strength. Activities such as throwing things, rolling balls, moving arms up and down will help children gain upper body strength. Activities such as jumping, running and balancing themselves will help them gain strength in the lower parts of their bodies. These activities allow them to work with their gross motor skills. Activities such as painting, puzzles, writing, coloring and typing on the keyboard allows them to use their fine motor skills.…

Computers, television, and video games conspire to keep kids inside and sedentary, which means they burn fewer calories and are more likely to gain weight. Concerns about the safety of outside play and a reliance on cars instead of walking – even to the corner store – don’t help matters. By preschool age, many kids are already lacking enough activity, which often translates into poor exercise habits later in life.…

During my first round of practicum, I went to a kindergarten classroom with around 20 to 25 students in the classroom. I went to Miller Elementary and Mrs. Schuchard was my cooperative teacher. I walked in and was immediately placed with students to work with. In the morning the students were working on their daily five and phonics. One thing that I observed that I found very interesting is that the teacher had two rug areas for meetings. When she needed to teach the children for a longer period of time, she would tell them to move over to the other area in order to make them have a brain break and then refocus. It was very interesting to see how effective just a little amount of movement was for these kindergarteners.…

What does your child say when someone asks about his or her favorite subject? Does your child usually say recess or gym? Do you cringe wishing that reading, math, or science was the answer? Actually, it’s not wrong to love recess or gym class, and recent studies show that recess and gym class are just as important as reading, math, and science for your child’s overall development. With budgets being cut and pressure on academic performance increasing, it is no surprise that recess and gym class are being sacrificed.…
