Introduction Effective note taking can help an interviewer categorize and remember what occurred during the interview process. It can be very easy for the interviewer to forget specific statements, qualifications, and other relevant details when a number of interviews for the same position occur. Effective note taking and summary statements allow the interviewer a reference point to go back and compare candidates against. (Arthur, 2012) This paper will provide the interview notes from a successful interview for the night shift supervisor for the Home Improvement Center, as well as the summarizing statement.
Interview Notes
Bachelor’s Degree in Business Management, minor in Communications
Past experience as a night shift supervisor with a smaller competitor
Believes in collaborative management, and rejects the idea that dictatorial management is the best way to lead employees
Self-proclaimed strong public speaker, enjoys getting in front of people and communicating
Comes from a multicultural family and neighborhood; has a tremendous amount of experience working with and leading those of other cultures in a way that is culturally sensitive
Finds our benefits and compensation package to be competitive compared to her current and past positions in the industry
Noted that she is not being challenged by her current position
Upset that there is little chance for upward mobility for her at the company
Enjoys our benefit for paying for employee’s tuition if they wish to obtain a higher degree
Downside: Has never led as many employees as she will lead as part of this organization
Summarizing Statement This job requires leadership experience, with a heavy emphasis on leadership experience in a night shift capacity. This candidate has 2 years of leadership experience in a related job with a smaller company, and has worked for the past 6 months in the night shift. Strong communication skills are also essential given the demanding work, as well as the multicultural labor force. This candidate has a rare mix of leadership and communication skills, as well as experience working with a diverse base of employees. Experience of this type is somewhat rare, and makes the candidate a very strong one. The candidate also has demonstrated a great deal of ambition, something that our company believes leads to more productive employees. The fact that she wishes to leave because there is no upward mobility in her company is a good sign that she has career goals and wants to meet them. The candidate’s desire to go back to college to earn an advanced business degree shows that she cares about continuing education and consistently making herself better. Our company rewards this kind of perspective, one that ensures that the employee stands a reduced chance of being complacent. One issue that has been pinpointed during the interview is the fact that the candidate has never led as many employees as she would in this position. This is a source of concern, especially since there are other candidates who have this experience. However, given her other strong qualifications and personality, it is possible to overlook this issue.
Conclusion
In conclusion, effective interview notes can help an interviewer clarify what they heard during the interview and compare it against what is portrayed on the resume. (Dunkelberg, 1985) Without interview notes, it can become very easy for the interviewer to forget crucial details that were stated in the interview. In this case study, the individual who interviewed for the position has a number of strengths. By noting these strengths in the interview notes, the interviewer will remember why this candidate set herself apart compared to the others who applied for the position. By taking effective notes, the interviewer increases the chances that the right person will be hired for the job.

Instead of paying various employees a large salary year after year, they can spend a considerable one time amount on software. One way an organization can take of technology is through electronic recruiting, because it has the ability to reach a wider range of audiences. By reaching a larger audience the HR division can have access to more talented professionals seeking employment. By having access to a larger number of applicants, one has a greater chance of selecting the most competent applicant for the job position.
