Background about the position
The department of Modern Languages, Literatures, and Cultures in Woody’s College, located in east California, is seeking employees for a full-time tenure-track Assistant Professor position in Arabic language. The prospective employee will teach five classes per academic year. Woody’s College seeks committed bilingual applicants with a passion in undergraduate education. Applicants should be able to communicate in both standard Fus-ha and colloquial Arabic dialect. Candidates should have a minimum of three years of experience in teaching the Arabic language to various academic levels. A Ph.D. degree is required to be eligible for the full-time position. The position will start early September 2015; therefore, applicants are encouraged to apply early to be considered for the position. The deadline for the application is April 2015.
Job Description
Expertise desired in areas of contemporary relevance that could include, but are not limited to, Language Pedagogy, Literature, Popular Culture, Second Language Acquisition, and Sociolinguistics.
The successful candidate responsibilities in teaching and program development will include:
Developing a standard based communicative approach.
Participating in curriculum design, materials development, and assessment of language proficiency.
Designing and implementing an integrated community-based curricular component for Arabic language students.
Student advising and service in college governance.
Developing upper-level courses in Arabic in the candidate 's area(s) of specialization.
