Learning Team Reflection In this paper we provide a brief history of CAMCO manufacturing. Then we identify the type of process design CAMCO manufacturing uses. We will also explain several items regarding the manufacturing process related to the organization that as a team, we viewed as unique and interesting?
Camco Manufacturing Inc. started in 1966 with one employee and one product. Today, over 40 plus years later, they have more than 350 employees, over 3,000 products and five manufacturing facilities to better serve their customers needs. The home office is in Greensboro, North Carolina. They also have locations in Elkhart, Indiana; Portland, Oregon; Leominster, Massachusetts and our newest facility in Beilun,

And the new process didn 't cost a cent. In fact, it generated cash from the start. What did CAMCO do? How did they do it? In 1988, CAMCO 's vice president of manufacturing decided to scour the world looking for innovative manufacturing practices. In New Zealand, he discovered a company that had developed a powerful new way of manufacturing, and he brought the process back to Canada. This became the basis for CAMCO 's great success. The process was eventually transplanted to GE 's U.S. operations, and widely followed after that. Our research indicates that CAMCO manufacturing group used the make to order process design.(Investopedia) Explains that make to order is a business production strategy that typically allows consumers to purchase products that are customized to their specifications. The make to order (MTO) strategy only manufactures the end product once the customer places the order. The make to order (MTO) strategy also relieves the problems of excessive inventory that is common with the traditional make to stock (MTS)

    Herman Miller’s strategy is a growth strategy, through innovative products and production processes that focuses on renewal and reinvention. There is evidence that HMI’s strategy has produced a competitive advantage and financial performance. HMI expanded overseas and had a large market. HMI used a system of lean manufacturing techniques referred to as the Herman Miller Production System (HMPS). The HMOs strove to maintain efficiencies and cost savings by minimizing the amount of inventory on hand through a just-in-time process. A key element of HMI’s manufacturing strategy was to limit fixed production costs by outsourcing component parts from strategic suppliers. This strategy allowed the company to increase the variable nature of its cost structure while retaining proprietary control over those production processes that it believed to provide a competitive advantage. In 1996 due to high prices and long lead times, Herman Miller’s IMT (Integrated Materials Technology) leaders decided to hire the Toyota Supplier Support Center, which was the consulting arm of automaker Toyota. With the help and ideas of everyone from IMT and the Toyota supplier support center, improvements were made such as a decrease in quality defects in parts per million, which decreased from 9,000 in 2000 to 1,500 in 2006.     The current distribution of Toyota production faculties are 10 in the United States, 3 in Canada and one in Mexico. Toyota began setting up production facilities back in 1984, when it became partners with General Motors Corp believing it was important to have manufacturing and production facilities on site, to better cater to the needs of the customer in that local market.
