HSM-240 CheckPoint: Court Decisions
Judge stalls Mich. drug testing program for welfare applicants. Alcoholism & Drug Abuse Weekly, 10421394, 11/22/99, Vol. 11, Issue 45

I chose this one because of personal experience in the state of Virginia where I live, before EBT cards that we use now to buy food with before we got food stamps and the where half the value on the street where you could get cash or drugs. Almost all the public housing residents also received food stamps and you believe me most of them where traded for drugs because I am a recovering addict with almost 8 years clean I seen it done with my own eyes. Now with the EBT cards I am sure it is a lot harder to do so but I am sure that they have found a way to still do it.

The purpose of a General Appeals Process is used to challenge payer’s decision to reduce, deny or to downcode any claim. The provider however, can ask for a review of the payer’s decision. The patient also has a right to ask for a request of the appeal. The claimant or appellant is the one that is filing the appeal. That could be an individual who is the provider or the patient. The basic steps are simple of the appeal. This is where the payer has a consistent procedure to handle the appeal. This has to do with what kind of appeal it is. The social policy that I want to talk about is food stamps known as EBT, because I find myself irritated with what I see basically everyday being a cashier at a grocery store. Now before I start talking about all my negatives I have to say with this program I do realize there are people who truly do need government help and support in some situations, and I believe in them receiving it. Right off the bat my biggest issue with EBT is it’s given out by the government with hardly any restrictions such as people are able to buy basically anything they want in a grocery store other than alcohol or tobacco. The fact that people can buy anything they want, when me and other middle class people wouldn’t even splurge on half the items they do, such as $15-$100 in steaks for one…

The question at hand is, should recipients of welfare undergo drug testing for use of illegal drugs in order to receive their welfare checks? This is one of the issues that the US Congress and the US citizens have been debating for years. Author, Arthur Delany explains the concern of both sides of this question in his article, “Welfare Drug Testing Bill Introduced In Congress”, published in The Huffington Post. Like many social issues, there are opposing view points on the idea. On this issue, many would argue that drug testing for welfare recipients is unconstitutional and ultraconservative, while on the complete opposite side the argument, it is believed that the US government should not give…

English 1302 14 July 2011 Drug Testing Welfare Recipients Recently there has been a lot of debate over drug testing as an eligibility requirement for welfare recipients to receive benefits. There is a significant amount of Americans that agree with drug testing as an eligibility requirement for those seeking welfare benefits, but there is also individuals claiming that the drug testing is unconstitutional and is a violation of their fourth amendment of the U.S. constitution, protection against unreasonable searches. I chose this topic because the United States economy is steadily declining and if Americans do not start addressing some of the main contributors behind this decline now then we could ultimately be in the midst of another depression similar to the one in the early nineteen thirties. I would rather not be involved in such a disaster and I especially do not want my kids to be left with the burden. Also, a vast majority of Americans appear to be much lazier and incompetent than in previous years. Some of these individuals have figured out that they can sit back and always rely on someone else, taxpayers, to do all of their providing for them. I believe that if we can put certain constraints, such as drug testing welfare recipients, on individuals that are abusing the system then we may have an opportunity to start seeing a light at the end of the tunnel. Lately I have continued to grow more and more concerned about the continued down spiraling of the economy and the effect it has had on my family. My husband came home from…
