The Role of Reality in Children 's Literature
The Adventures of Huckleberry Finn
The author Mark Twain created one of the world’s best children’s classic books in 1885. This novel is written in a realistic style, depicting how morals and actions of a child can clash concerning to society. Mark Twain displays realism through all his writing; Twain made sure the setting, characters, and speech screamed realistic. Not only were those important, Twain went a step farther by displaying education, religion, and romance using actual examples.

Huck Finn is shown possessing a struggle to become a free individual. Which, is seen clearly when Huck Finn leaves Widow Douglas, his alcoholic father, and Miss Watson. Huck Finn came to the decision that in freeing himself and see the world he must leave the alcoholic household and the women who his father is living with. To show the reality of loyalty Huck Finn meets a boy named Jim. The two boys began a relationship as close friends filled with a type of friendship loyalty. How Mark Twain shows that loyalty is through a battle both Huck and Jim have to correct morals and ethics that became a problem. One-minute a person is about religion however as soon as religion values do not fit their own person needs they tend to disregard religion altogether. Mark Twain introduces the two characters Grangerfords and the Shepherdsons to display religion, both families where families that Huck Finn came across on his adventure. An example of the religious hypocrisy is that of Twain (1985) stated, “the men took their guns along, and kept them between their knees or stood them handy against the wall.
