The Adventures of Huckleberry Finn by Mark Twain, is it good or bad? That is something many people are saying today. One might say that Huckleberry Finn was not a good story from the beginning, with all the bad language, racist remarks, and rude gestures. The people had no clue that Huckleberry Finn would be an amazing possession. A person may say that Huckleberry Finn is an amazing book; another might say it is terrible because of the racism, and that it should not be in our schools anymore. Huckleberry Finn is a great book it tells us about the past and how people back then were raised.
Why are people today not reading Huckleberry Finn? That is a good question people should ask themselves today. Some people may say because it is not good for people to know about, others will say that kids need to learn about what happened in the older days. People think they can take one book out because it is not right, but that is not the correct way to look at things. The teachers now a day are taking multiple books out because they do not line up with the social aspects today. Wells …show more content…
then, if that happens then what will people do in a couple of years when another great book does not line up with the social world then? The battle wont end the librarians will constantly be taking books off the shelves because they are not acceptable. There will not be anymore historical books on the shelves. Today people do not use incorrect grammar like “Which one gwyne to fetch him” (Twain13) or “Now, I can have a good look at you; and laws-a-me,” (Twain166) The reason people don’t talk like that now a day is because we have been taught proper grammar by our teachers. We have had proper education. They didn’t have that back then.
Now just because a book has some offensive words in it is not a reason to ban the book, in the meaning behind The Adventures of Huckleberry Finn totally overpowers the offensive language of the book. In The Adventures of Huckleberry Finn it is explained how they talked then and how they lived their lives. It was the way they were raised. People don’t just choose how they live, walk, or talk. For instance in chapter 32 Aunt Sally asked if anyone was hurt in the accident, Huck Finn said, “No’m. Killed a nigger.” (Twain197) Huck was very precise in his answer he was telling the truth and he was not using what he said in a wrong manner. Another instant is in chapter 1 the widow Douglas took Huck in as her son, and said she would civilize him. When Huck saw Jim he saw a person he did not see a servant or anything bad. Huck would do anything for Jim and Jim would do anything for Huck. When they would use the word nigger, they were not using it in a bad way that was just how they were raised. Black people are just as much human and whites are, there should not be a racial issue with this book being out there. That is simple just how some people were raised. We all sin and disobey we are no different.
Although we are not as prejudice towards blacks as we were in the past, prejudice still exists in other areas, for example the gays, Muslims, and sometimes-even women.
My opinion on gays is that it is not right to be with the same sex as you. That isn’t how God made us. God made us to be with the opposite sex and to populate the world. When people think about bombs and stuff like that we think of Muslims. People think wrongly about Muslims, but they shouldn’t. They do wrong but everyone sins, we all fall short sometimes. As far as the women go, some assume that women are week and they cannot do what men can do. That isn’t true there are plenty of strong women in the word. Look at the army today; there are tons of women fighting for our country risking their lives. With saying all that are we as different as we really think we
are?
The Adventures of Huckleberry Finn is a non-slavery book, and with its flawed criticism, it is one of the best dark periods of history that we all will have to deal with. We will never fully understand it a, unless you research it and read about slavery. The Adventures Of Huckleberry Finn showed me that life will always change it will never be the same, not only will life change but people will change too. It also showed me how a person can care about another person. Jim was like a father to Huck, which made me so happy that Jim would care about Huck like that. The Adventures of Huckleberry Finn was by far one of the best books I have ever read.
