Dear Mr. Warren, My name is Hugh Pentecost. I am a former student from Morgan Military Academy. I’m writing this letter to you to ask your permission to publish, “A Kind of Murder”, a story about you in the Oxford Students’ Anthology. I would like to use this story to help youth learn the dark side of disrespect and to teach people to be more tolerant of differences. It would be an honor to me to share my experience of all the courageous things you did. I would like to thank you for everything you did for Morgan Military Academy. When the school dog was drowning and you saved him when no one couldn’t do anything about it, you showed everyone what a brave man you really are. Even though you are deaf you still tried to teach the students the best you could. I admire that about you. I would like to apologize to you for something. When you saved the dog I realized that you are a good man and I wanted to help you. I saw you there in the study hall helpless, I wanted to defend you but I didn’t. I could stand the pressure I would get from my classmates. I am sorry, I should of done what was right. I wanted to share my experience with others and help them learn respect. Some student need to learn to respect and tolerate differences in others. Respect will teach youth manners, if they don’t it could disturb their education and social lives in the future. I will try my best to tech youth to not make the same mistakes I did. Thank you for taking your time to red this letter. Please feel free to contact me at any time at 123-4567. I’m looking forward to hear more from you in the future.
Sincerely,
Hugh Pentecost

In Hero by Mike Lupica, Zach Harriman, the main character, is stubborn, courageous, and curious. For instance, after Zach explains his theory behind the plane crash that killed his dad to Kate and she does not believe him, Zach thinks to himself that “As much as Kate Paredes loved being right, she was dead wrong about the crash that killed his dad, and one of these days Zach was going to prove it” (Lupica 72). Although many people, including his best friend Kate, seem to believe that the death of Zach’s dad was an accident, he is unfathomably determined to obtain the truth. Zach’s stubbornness is best represented with the head of a donkey, an animal proverbially associated with stubbornness. Additionally, when he is confronted in Central Park…

Through Deaf Eyes is a film outlining deaf history and deaf culture. The movie touches on many key milestones in deaf American’s lives including: community interactions, education, recreation and work. While we have been learning much on deaf history, I was fascinated to hear the many obstacles deaf people had to overcome to reach where they are today. I am one to always route for the underdog and to me the deaf community’s history is a wonderful example of a minority persevering to achieve set goals and dreams. This movie helped me realize that while obstacles for modern deaf people are numerous, in the past they were almost…
