Paula LeClaire

Assessment A: Distinguishing Between an Issue and a Problem | "They said one hit wouldn't hurt." What problems or issues do you see with this? | ☐ Mostly issues - people might have different opinions on if a single hit could hurt, much less kill you as in the commercial. | ☑ It's a problem - I think most people would agree that a single use of drugs could potentially be deadly. | | OK, so as far as this video is concerned, our challenge is to keep kids from even trying drugs. How do we express that? I would say something like "How can we prevent adolescents from experimenting with drugs?" | ☐ That is way too general. | ☑ That

Adolescents who experiment with drugs normally do not have the facts of each drug and will normally start out with less harsh ones which eventually lead to the hardcore drugs as well as possibly alcohol. Adolescents who do not completely understand the consequences of these drugs are not fully aware of how these drugs can harm their bodies or how addictive they can turn out to be as well as some of the shameful things they may do in order to support their habit; they sure are not going to understand why these drugs are unsafe. Without understanding the dangers more adolescents to cave under peer-pressure. I believe adolescent drug abuse itself is a problem. Of course not everyone agrees on the solutions proposed. Certain individuals think more sports should be provided to offer structure to our adolescents away from home whereas others think parents need to become further educated to be prepared to teach their own children.

Assessment B, Part 2: Email a Friend about the Issue/Problem of Interest | Email a Friend about the Issue/Problem of Interest | This is a challenge in several different ways since the outcome could result from several different things, some adolescents have too much free time on their hands and get involved with things as such because they are not monitored by their parents as they need to be, giving them lead way to make this mistake. Then you have children who are protected by their parents too much and they are rebellious and do it out of spite.

The two strategies that I would have applied to help foster critical thinking and to help lead you to the root cause of the illegal immigration would be applying curiosity and avoiding assumptions. Applying curiosity can increases awareness of problems and issues, enabling you to feel dissatisfactions and annoyances more consciously and to regard them more productively as challenges and opportunities. Psychologists have long recognized that when we travel a particular mental route a second or third time, we often follow our earlier footsteps without realizing that we are doing so. What has been tried in the past and what is tried now to help prevent illegal immigration has not worked. What is needed to be known is why so the solutions tried will not be tried again; new solutions need to be tried. I also chose avoiding assumptions as to assume is to take something for granted, to expect that things will be a certain way because they have been that way in the past or because you want them to be that way. It’s natural to make assumptions. It is assumed that the solutions that are in place will work when all one has to do is look around, pick up a newspaper or do an internet search. One can just pick up the phone for assistance and listen to another person struggle to speak English, I for one cannot understand what that person is trying to say and it is known that they do not understand you as well. If applying for citizenship, one should have to speak the native language.…

Some adolescents are not aware of all of the risk that comes with substance use. They do not know all of the effects that each drug will have on them cognitively, physically and emotionally. As they get older they gain more knowledge about drugs and their effects. They are able to assess the risks and determine that substances are not worth their health. They are not able to assess whether the rewards of taking drugs are worth the risks. Also some adolescents are not able to evaluate the bigger picture of how drugs are going to affect all aspects of their lives in the present and in the…
